### Michael Vardi’s inspirational scholar story | LBS

I came to LBS from Consulting
and
the secure path for me would have been
to go back to Consulting I'm Michael
vardy I'm an MBA student from 2017 and
currently I'm co-founder and CBO of
valeran I received the blavatnik
scholarship it enabled me to take on
more risks than I otherwise would have
felt comfortable doing and actually I
started valeran from lbs Valerian it's a
startup based out of London Israel and
what we do is we help some of the
largest organizations in a few different
countries better manage roads the way we
do that is by processing hundreds of
millions of data points every single day
to help them know where are the biggest
risk areas in bottlenecks what that
actually means in practice is that they
can get to life or death situations
sooner helping them save lives or reduce
congestion faster helping them save our
time but potentially more importantly
massive amount of emissions that we
spend every day hopefully as we scale it
will be a business that reaches many
roads around the world saving
hundreds if not thousands of lives that
all started because I had the confidence
the financial confidence to give it a
try at entrepreneurship the obs
that would not have been possible if I
didn't have the scholarship that had
Financial backing and so getting that if
you will pre-precede that initial
investment gave me that confidence and I
think it can give a lot of other people
the confidence to try and Achieve
something bigger than they would have
done otherwise and not take the sure
Financial path

you know infecting with the right kind
of thinking and that thinking is that
the world is changing now and we're
seeing it so therefore businesses play
such a huge role in that they also have
the huge opportunity to really leverage
that for good
up until this point it's saying talk
about the old way of thinking of
Business Schools if you go there to make
money that doesn't cut it anymore and
you would not have come to London
Business School if that was your
motivation so let's ask you what do you
expect out of the scholarship I came
from a super non-profit background
attending business models driven with
the social purpose it's not the same
when you look at profit maximization
versus social impact I want to take
these skill sets and materialize them in
a way where I can continue accelerating
change in the impact sector and then
eventually I think moving into a career
that allows me to gain the skill sets
and then start my own company when I
came here I wanted to focus on on three
things how do we use technology
entrepreneurship and impact investing as
a Force for good and for me the vision
that I really put forth was around
building the businesses that will build
Africa and the world coming here from
South Africa you know I'm not doing five
foot lots of like imposter syndrome
operating with all these brilliant
people who actually often are asking
yourself what am I even doing here but
the two of you believed in me enough to
make it possible and I had an incredible
experience what I love is this mix and
this exchange of ideas because from this
I always say it's like putting you know
popcorn in the microwave oven you know
ping ping ping ideas sort of come out
and you go oh wow we literally come out
with a whole working list of of things
to do because of because of the inputs
that we've had from all the scholars
tell us why would you encourage other
donors to give to LBS I think if we look
at all the things we do with our
foundation Gallifrey Foundation
probably one of the most successful
Investments that we have made is here in
the school and that is the scholarships
the internships the research and then
actually being able to to hire people
from the school you call it throwing a
rock in a pond I see the ripples going
out and so we're very pleased to not
only been a part of that a long time ago
but also see where the school is headed
it's now 10 years so we've we've seen
the arcs the progression of each scholar
as they have progressed that to me is
tremendous satisfaction we need more of
this to happen and we need more of it to
happen sooner rather than later it will
only grow exponentially for good we've
put our small rock in the pond and
that's brought both of you here but we
want others to join us in doing that too
and we want you to make rocks and we
want you to throw them keep shaking this
up this is important yeah yeah and
really
um urgent

### How Busie Dhlodhlo used perseverance and triumph on her scholarship journey | LBS

I have always believed that education
can be a key to a better life it is
changed me as a person
it has changed my views on life and
people it has enhanced them my name is
Lucy Lolo I was in the MFA class of 2022
I've recently graduated I come from
Zimbabwe where I studied and worked and
I've just finished an internship in
Investment Management I got a married
scholarship initially that was a part
scholarship but I needed more funds to
finance the rest of my state LPS so I
spoke to the school and the school
organized with external donors to get me
the rest of the funding that I needed so
this was me at one years it was my first
birthday well this is me in 2005. I was
in Primary School in Plum Tree there
were four classes per grade and around
50 students each class the teachers did
their best
but on average the school was not so
great there weren't many resources this
was actually a boys school and I was the
first girl to attend there this is me on
graduation at London Business School
when I came to LBS it was scary for me
to dream of coming here and it was
probably West for a lot of other people
and I've had quite a number of people
reached out to me
to ask how they can come to LBS so me
having time here has been a platform for
other people to believe that they too
can also do something for themselves and
for their communities I would like to
learn what
good places and first world business
places like London operate along impact
investing or DFI or something that his
core ESG related issues around it so
that is what I want to do the work of
making the world a better place is not a
one-man job so the more people have
access to Opportunities like this the
more people have access to living in a
country that is
based on trust like the UK I think the
more mines become transformed and the
more widespread the change is in the
world and that's what a gift to London
Business School can do

I'm Jason Shredder I am partner and head
of emea for the rain group I graduated
from the MBA program in 2005 and I've
tried to be an active alumni since then
I give to London business school because
I had a great experience and I
understand what it's like to leave a
career behind and take a risk take two
years off and then reposition yourself
my transition from before and after was
pretty revolutionary in my life so if I
can enable someone else to have that
benefit I think that's rewarding not
just for me but for them and hopefully
for the broader business community so my
scholarship at lbs it's called the tech
and media disruption scholarship and it
is focused on a candidate into the
school who wants to explore something
entrepreneurial that could disrupt the
status quo in technology or consumer the
way consumers interact with the world I
get to know each one of the scholars
personally and try to interact with them
to help them on their Journey I'm proud
to say that our first recipient is now
in San Francisco he's raised Capital
he's building businesses I get monthly
reports just like his investors do
because we've built that Bond the other
three we're in our fourth year now I
have a relationship with all of them I'm
hopeful there are other people in the
alumni community that like the same
vision and want to join so that we're
not just enabling Tech and media
disruption
for one student a year maybe we're doing
five or ten or maybe even more at some
point I feel like I'm along with the
with with the team at London business
school starting a snowball that will
kind of build and build and build over
time I hope the school gets that benefit
and I'm one part of uh you know three
four five years from now people looking
at London Business School and saying
this is a place that if you're a young
person who wants to go and start a
business and learn how to do it you come
here because we have that brand

### Sarah Qian's inspiring journey of scholarship success | LBS

Idioma: en

my name is Sarah Chen I'm a second year
student at London business school
studying the MBA prior to the MBA I was
a doctor so I specialized in
endocrinology and diabetes and I worked
in that for around eight years both in
Australia and the UK it was a choice for
me whether I wanted to kind of follow
the steady path or try and do something
different I'm hoping to be like a bridge
between clinical medicine and also the
business side of things because I think
combining the two different perspectives
could be very powerful to kind of
determine the Technologies or the
treatments that we need to solve some of
the most challenging problems that we
have today that's why I decided to do
the MBA and of course I wanted to learn
from the best which is why I wanted to
come to lbs
I received the service and Society
scholarship which was donated by the
class of 1979. the scholarship I think
has been invaluable prior to this I was
working in the NHS for two years during
the pandemic which was quite tough and I
think I just wouldn't have had the means
to be able to come and have this
education and to have these experiences
I think the world is in you know a
difficult spot at the minute and there's
going to be new challenges in the future
and the best way I think to come up with
the solutions we need is to have a
diverse group of perspectives of people
and sharing knowledge scholarships
enable people who like myself otherwise
are not the traditional fit for the
business world or the MBA but if we can
all share you know our experiences
together I think it's a much more
powerful community
