I started hellofresh
after graduating from the moon program
in 2010 and since then I've seen
hellofresh grow tremendously now we're
serving millions of meals to our
customers around the globe I graduated
from the Masters of management in 2015
and it really helped further my career
it helped me grow faster than I would
have otherwise
I chose LVS primarily based on some of
the conversations I've had with alumni
I've found that everyone I've spoken to
who's a tenth of the school genuinely
has this passion and this drive and this
fire burning in their eyes there's a lot
of stuff that I learnt that I can still
apply today but for me there are two
things they're really standing out
number one invests the International
exposure you get I'm responsible for
twelve markets so I have to deal with a
lot of people that are non German don't
have a German background so it
definitely helps to be able to adjust
and adapt to and people having a
different background I have used the
community of lbs a lot obviously I have
a lot of great friendships that came out
of it and I really love helping alumni
of London Business School because I know
they'll be a really high caliber you
really feel like you're part of a family
it's very cheesy to say that it's true
the other thing that I really learnt at
lbs is dealing with data I think today
that's so important to be able to think
about data the right way to be able to
analyze data and I think that's also
something that's really setting called
afresh apart obvious really helped me
develop my confidence in business then
what it means to work in a corporate
structure the marketing class was one of
the most useful courses for my career
right now it really drove home the
importance of putting the customer first
and creating value for the customer over
the past ten years business practices
have changed and we have reacted to this
by developing and extending our career
one of the important skills needed to be
successful in business is to see the big
picture or to make connections between
different business functions we teach
this through our integrated modules
where students have the opportunity to
make connections between different pour
courses or core
they learn in addition during the live
business project students apply all the
skills they developed throughout the
program to solve the real-world problems
for a real company I'm particularly
focused on consulting I think that this
program it will equip me with really
important skills technically and
theoretically I've been working very
closely with the Career Center with mock
interviews and CV reviews and what I
really love is how committed they are
and how adaptable they are based on your
plan and how that might change
throughout the year considering all that
I've learned so far on the men in the
last few months I am really excited to
see where this program takes me

foreign
s we are evaluating in the Recruitment
and admissions team is whether you're
going to make a great future alumni and
advocate for London Business School this
Brand's going to stay with you forever
and we want you to invest in the school
as much as the school is going to invest
in you a successful Global MIM candidate
is one who is looking for a rigorous
academic experience because it's a
two-year program so we're looking for
those that are really committed to their
learning experience in London but are
equally excited about their
opportunities in Shanghai it's a general
management degree it does attract those
that already have that background
because they want to get further
practical exposure but equally it
attracts those that are from a social
sciences Humanities arts and literature
backgrounds for them to build that
fundamental toolkit you're going to need
to really refine your story and
personalize it to each program you apply
to so do as much research as you can get
your hands on reach out to the community
take that research a bit further and
find out if this is a place where you
really fit and belong London Business
School really gives you a practical
insight into Theory into practice and I
think the community really Blends itself
together even though people are from all
different walks of life and it's just
such a fortunate experience to be able
to share in these Journeys and live that
diversity and Rich culture that we have
here every day
thank you

### Masters in Management: “You build a global network that will last forever” | LBS

Idioma: en

I chose to study at London Business
School for three main reasons first of
all I wanted to benefit from lbs British
reputation and global network secondly
for its location wanting to work in
finance
I chose lbs for his proximity to the
first Financial Centre in the world and
thirdly I chose lbs for his program I
really wanted to complete my knowledge
to be able to have the most solid
background to start a career in finance
the most striking difference that I
experienced at London Business School
compared to my previous undergrad school
was its diversity and how international
it is you get the chance to work and to
study alongside people from many
different backgrounds educationally or
from many countries all around the world
and this really gives you a different
way of thinking and new skills that you
would never thought you could have
learned I joined the lbs in September
and with the help of the Career Center I
got my job offer at UBS in October and
started the graduate program i UBS after
graduation the next summer as a rate
cells in their fixed income departments
after UVs I decided to join funding
circle a British fin tech company that
does peer-to-peer lending in the UK the
US and in Europe my key takeaways from
lbs were first of all the mindsets that
I developed very different from the more
technical one that I had previously you
gain a much more intrapreneurial a way
of thinking and also the network at lbs
you build a very global and important
network that will last forever

### Global MiM: “I got to see how business is done in the West and the East” | London Business School

Idioma: en

I decided to do the global masters in
management at London Business School
because I really wanted to jumpstart a
global career this program the global
min offered the perfect opportunity to
see how business was done in the West as
well as the East having exposure to
London the financial center of Europe as
well as real China exposure in Asia in
Shanghai I think the biggest learning
from the program for me has been the
importance of surrounding myself with
diverse and highly motivated people
there's 38 of us in the first year and
there's over 15 different nationalities
and it's been a real benefit working
closely with them working in study
groups with them work on project with
them because every student has an
individual and unique background so a
different country a different
educational background this is really
enriched classroom experience and it
really helps you put things into
perspective
after graduating from Fudan University I
plan to go to Jordan Madsen in Hong Kong
and work start their executive trainee
scheme where they try and develop future
leaders for that company as a
conglomerate it's quite exciting because
they have Holdings all over Asia China
is a specific area of interest for them
so that's really something that I hope
to be able to exploit both my experience
here in China as well as the language
skills I've picked up along the way I
don't think that I would have had the
same opportunities without attending
this program

obvious really helped me develop my
confidence in business and what it means
to work in a corporate structure I chose
London Business School and specifically
the master's in management because I
thought it had a great overview of
different courses I liked that there was
a core part of the program which taught
you the fundamentals but also the
liberty of choosing a couple of
different areas of focus it was also
amazing to see so many really impressive
professors teaching there from the first
time I walked onto the campus I really
felt like I was part of the strong
community since I graduated from the men
I actually found my first job but not a
birthday via the Career Center and in my
current job I'm a product manager at my
builder I think about our customers
problems and their needs and I work with
the development team to address these
means the marketing class which was part
of the master's in management was one of
the most useful courses for my career
right now it really drove home the
importance of putting the customer first
and creating value for the customer but
also finance was really useful in
understanding the fundamentals and
driving value for the business I think
the biggest benefit of going to obvious
really is how it fast-tracks your career
you'll learn a lot and those skills will
be useful to you for the rest of your
life

### Early Career Programmes: Career Conversations with Alumni | London Business School
URL: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6LcMNAKoUEM

Idioma: en

so thank you
so much for joining us today um wherever
you are across
the world welcome um as you can see from
today's title
we are hosting a career focus
conversation
event um this is going to be in
conversation
with some of our early career students
sorry our alumni um they're here today
so that you can hear about the
first-hand experiences that they've had
with the career center
and how this has really impacted their
ability to
secure their post-grad roles and how
it's just supported them
throughout their journey so far um it's
also just an opportunity for you to get
to know them
and their journeys so far and a bit
about their sector choices
um so i will be your host for today
my name is malik khamud i'm the student
recruitment manager for the mim
and gmin programs here at lbs
um i'll be giving you a brief overview
of the type of support that you would
expect should you
join london business school so i'll
quickly
run through um these at the beginning
of the session um but what i do want to
do is give as much time for us to spend
with our alumni
so that we can hear from them a bit more
about their personal
experiences and hopefully at the end
we will dedicate um 10 minutes
for your questions so throughout today
please do put in your questions
in the chat box below if you have any
questions
uh for any of our alumni please just pop
their name at the beginning so we know
to address the question to them
so without further ado i will
like to introduce our alumni
and so the first alumni we have here is
catherine hi catherine
hi everyone can you hear me
yeah hi um i'm catherine i'm a
mim 2020 so i graduated during the time
i haven't actually walked across the
stage though i've got my diploma
so i'm originally from indonesia but i
spent the last five years or so
living studying and working between the
uk singapore and indonesia
during my time at lbs i was a part i was
hugely part of the asia club for example
i was the year so i was their social
events officer and i was also part of
the women in business club and i took
part in
both the vcic competition last year feel
free to ask me about
as well as the healthcare conference in
2020 so
prior to lbs i did my bachelors of
philosophy politics and economics so
if you're a social sciences grad and
you're interested in the mim you'll be
the reach out as well
with some internships in finance tech
and business development at
uh huge large companies as well as its
startups
and after the mim i'm currently a
project specialist at the boston
consulting group here in jakarta it's
essentially sort of an inter
an off cycle internship position and
i'll be joining accenture as a
technology consulting analyst
with their team in london later on this
spring um
if you are curious about why i joined
the mam definitely over the program
reputation
um career opportunities it has a great
alumni network as you can tell
all four of us are here on a wednesday
sort of night where i am
afternoon where everyone else is so
we're definitely passionate about
the mim and about lbs passing on
hopefully to my our other alumni
thank you catherine
hi everyone um thank you catherine hard
to go after that
um my name is zoe i'm originally from
france i moved to london
just after i turned 18 because i did my
bachelor lsd
i'm studying management already and then
uh working every summer
in a couple of different industries to
kind of try and understand what i would
want to do in the future
tried fashion tried kind of the music
festival industry as well
within my time at lbs uh i was more
involved in the like wines and spirits
club
uh the exploration club as well where we
did uh
went to marco to learn how to kite surf
and then
after the rim i joined the rgo as
on the commercial grad scheme here in
london um
so very heavily focused on sales but
with possibilities to kind of move
around and move countries
um and moved to like a permanent role
uh last july um within their e-commerce
uh team looking after bigger wholesalers
in the uk
thank you zoe moving on to ricardo hi
ricardo
hi mike thanks uh i'm ricardo i'm
originally from germany
um i'm also currently based in berlin um
i did
in 2018 together with zoe and before
that i did my undergrad in
in germany also in management then um i
actually took a year off after my
bachelor's and various internships with
energy and then joined them in 2017.
i was also part of the women's business
club just like kathryn and i was also
one of the members of
one of the foreign
[Music]
are definitely
and one of my highlights was definitely
thank you ricardo i think that leads us
on to preston
hello my name is preston uh was mim 2017
um nationally originally from the us
in the mim i was a part of the tech and
media club foodie club and a variety of
other clubs
uh and before the mem um i like to call
myself a reformed banker
i worked in investment banking goldman
sachs um
and had a myriad of internships in
finance
uh and decided that i wanted to do
something very different and transition
to the tech industry
so after the mem i joined google as
account executive
over on the sales side and eventually
transitioned in google to the
partnerships team
back in 2019 joined amazon to help found
a brand new startup business within
amazon
as a partnerships executive and really
enjoying that
reasons for choosing the mem there were
i think a myriad of different schools
offering graduate level degrees and
i was looking for something very
different to my
experience so far in the us
you know the ranking the fantastic
alumni network
were all bonuses for me just getting
something outside the us and gaining
that perspective and being able to bring
that back
in my career was something that i was
looking for and something that i'm very
glad that i got
brilliant thank you all so much for
obviously introducing yourselves
we will definitely kind of jump into the
panel questions
um right after kind of the brief
overview that i'm about to give
so just in terms of the career center
and how they help you
in managing your career it's really with
the mindset that
careers are actually for life so
what they try and do is through the year
that you spend at the school is help you
build the skills
um that will support you in managing
your career through
your lifetime initially so careers are
long and that's obviously our long-term
goal it's not just about the first role
that you get once you graduate
it's more about educating you informing
you
and equipping you with the skills that
you'll need throughout kind of every
move that you make throughout the your
career and that's like over maybe 40
years moving forward
so how do they actually do that so
careers management is really about
knowing yourself
as cliche as that kind of sounds
they want you to kind of understand your
strengths and your skills
and your values and what you actually
have to offer employers
also to understand what it is that
you're really looking for in the next
step in your career
they also work on educating you about
the market
which is crucial so you need to
understand the opportunities that are
actually open to you across a whole
range of sectors
and then it's about the tools that you
need to
effectively go to market so it's about
focusing
on how you position yourself with these
in front of these employees so
you know how you how you market yourself
whether
that's in the writing on your cvs and
your application materials as a whole
even online through your linkedin
profiles or in person when you
meet with people through networking
events the
coffee chats or the formal interviews
and the assessment
centers that you'll be kind of
practicing throughout
and obviously we do understand that
building a relationship
is crucial so i think
you know the main thing is during your
time at lbs the career center as well as
i think other elements of the school
um whether that's through you know
student
run clubs you will really have a ton of
opportunities to meet and develop
relationships with recruiters and also
alumni as you can see today there is
definitely a strong alumni network
um and through those activities you'll
you'll get an
opportunity to practice those skills um
whether it's through case competitions
through
internships or you know supporting
companies that are in the incubator for
those individuals who have entrepreneur
projects so you can definitely invest
time in that
it's also you can get um you know to
test your skills
initially moving on to the next slide
please
so how do they do that so they do that
through a number of approaches
they offer one-to-one coaching and
advising so you get
access to one-to-one sessions with
career coaches
or with advisors who have
you know obviously sector expertise in
certain fields
as well as peer leaders um so those
could actually be
second year mbas or executive mbas who
have a ton of experience in that field
and a lot of insights to share they
offer you
um it's obviously career learning so
you have a whole curriculum um to go
through throughout your year at the
school that equips you with
those skills that i spoke about in terms
of
cv writing telling your story
and knowing really how to articulate
that in interviews and exploring that
market
um so a few of the things that they
offer throughout the year is
i guess at the beginning they have
something called the summer support
series so this is actually before you
start the program um uh
these include kind of early um case
preparations for anyone who's interested
in
consulting or asia and us
we know that the recruitment process
starts quite early on
um so you have access to sector leads to
help you actually understand the
opportunities and the companies that you
may want to target
and and express an interest in they also
have the skills workshops which run um
throughout the months in the middle of
that year
and they help you put together like an
action plan preparing you for interviews
and assessment centers
and they run a host of alumni breakfasts
as well which is something that a lot of
students find really useful those focus
on different sectors
and geographies um so
we have you know company-specific
presentations throughout the year as
well
um so really there's just a ton of
things that you can get involved in
throughout the year
um to say the least and i'm sure that
our alumni today will kind of touch on
those and their specific
experiences on those um
but just moving on to the next slide now
this just gives you kind of like a brief
snapshot in terms of companies
so just a flavor for the type of
companies that actually recruit
our students i would really recommend
that you
download the employment report to get
the full list of these
some companies um you know there are
obviously very well known ones but it's
something to bear in mind that it's not
about
all the big names we do have um small
small companies and startup companies
that recruit our class
and i think something to mention as well
is one trend that we've seen
with time is that the number of hiring
companies
that recruit our early career students
is really growing
year on year and i think that just shows
that there is an increasing
interest in the type of lbs diversity of
students
um and just a big interest in companies
in general
to recruit from us
moving on to the next slide here i've
just decided
um to share with you some of our
employment statistics
um which is something we're really proud
of this year so
um the mim class which just graduated
which catherine
is was a part of um so she can tell us a
bit about her experience during that
time but
you know they graduated last year
especially i think for everyone knowing
you know we're facing a particularly
challenging global
environment with the pandemic and
everything going on
obviously despite those challenges they
really remained resilient rising to the
challenge
and really exceeding our expectations so
their stats
um were even better than the year before
that pre the pandemic which is fantastic
and i just want to say i think that
really um
says a lot about how the career center
has adapted to these changes
and hopefully that's the type of support
and outcome that you would get
if you do decide to join london business
school but
i'm going to stop rambling on now
because i know you already want to hear
um from our alumni themselves about
their experiences
so i guess the first question
i'd like to ask you is something that i
know that a lot of early career students
they're quite young
they probably have limited work
experience
um so for you was there anything in
particular that you wanted to
work on um and was the reason that drove
you to apply to the mim program and i
guess you know was that even aligned
with your career goals and if it was
how did you know that this was the
program that was gonna you know support
you in that or
help you get over that gap that you have
in your knowledge
which order do you want us to go same as
the slides or
just if you want
um i'll share quickly actually
a fun fact which is any fact that we
call fun before
saying the fact is actually not that fun
but i actually didn't
um like i didn't really want to apply to
rbs i did because i knew this school was
great but i was like you know what i
just did my undergrad in london
kind of want a change of scenery but
i'll
i do want to keep a couple of like
options i also knew i didn't want to go
back to france and yet i
also applied in france so i went through
the process
and during the interview my interviewer
just convinced me
that between all my that between all the
schools i was kind of considering
lbs was the best one and i think what he
said the most was
that i was basically being more
interested in the cities than the actual
schools
but that out of all the schools i was
considering lbs had the strongest
network
um and like before joining i kind of had
no idea what i wanted to do except that
i wanted to be in consumer goods
um and even though that's not
necessarily what people think is
the biggest strength at lbs you still
have a very strong
um a very very strong network of people
that didn't actually go into consumer
goods straight after
but potentially went into consulting and
then moved back into consumer goods
later on in their career
um and that's definitely something that
like i didn't expect when applying i
kind of
initially applied just because it was
the best school in london and then
ended up being like oh actually really
strong network and that's gonna
get me to where i want to be
interesting thank you for that zoe yes i
actually have a
story which kind of similar to zoey i
also i wasn't exactly sure what i want
to do
i only knew that i wanted to do my
master's a lot
didn't know exactly where i also applied
to a different range of schools
i knew that i didn't want to study in
germany because
they're quite theoretical and and what
what i really like about
um lbs since this is a business school
that is really
hands-on and then you have like small
classes that you have
um also you you're teaching your your
your groups your student groups that
you're working in
uh that you do a lot of case studies and
then you're actually
like working with the class and with
your students throughout the year and
that you're not just studying for exams
at the e at the end of each term so i
think that was
a a very good factor um that
made me make me choose lbs and then
i also since i wasn't really sure what i
wanted to do
i think lbs when i went to interview
they really helped me kind of shape the
idea of
where i want to go because i think most
people they're
a little bit overwhelmed by all the
choices that are out there and they
don't really have a clue
what they can actually do and um at lbs
you get a really structured
overview of kind of what are the options
what companies are and you get so many
different
company presentations um that you
actually have a very good overview of
what are what are all the possibilities
out there
i can go next so i if i recall correctly
you asked in particular if we had
like anything we wanted to improve
before going into obs as an aim and for
me
it was specifically sort of business
sense i came from a really social
sciences background yes i've done a
few internships so i felt like there was
an entire world out there in terms of
the network in terms of the number of
companies you could be working for
and being at lbs being supported by the
network by the career center
and seeing the number of possibilities
potential companies geographies that i
could be a part of after graduating
that was what i wanted and that was what
i got
i can go next um the
oxymoron i think in my case uh i was
transitioning from
finance from investment banking to at
the time i want to transition into tech
um and so the uh
most reasonable thing to do would
probably have been to go to a school in
california
as opposed to going to a school um you
know halfway across the world
and um i realized at the time that i
didn't want
an mba i didn't want to um
take the time to do an mba um
and i wanted to transition much faster
than an nba would allow
which was a very interesting situation
i'm happy to answer more questions on it
but
um i applied to a variety of schools
both in the u.s
and abroad and what really sold
london business school for me was the
alumni network um
there was a very clear tangible
difference between
alumni of other schools and london
business school um
when i reached out over linkedin asked
to hear about their experience
you know um they're working at companies
that i wanted to work at do the things i
want to do do you like it
am i making a mistake by transitioning
out of finance into tech
um and lbs alumni were far and away
uh more helpful friendly always
available to reach out
even if i didn't attend london business
school a few alumni that i still keep in
touch with
um mention hey here's my phone number
feel free to text me if you ever need
any advice
and um that's a very big thing in tech
and
i i think that's what cinched it for me
after doing a little bit of additional
research on the school decided that
you know if the alumni network is this
helpful before
um you know i sign on the dotted line
then there's probably something very
special about the school
uh and you know i can say from a careers
perspective
i've been paid back uh dividends uh by
choosing lbs
just recently i finished up a
variety of negotiations with other
companies and i tapped into the career
center
on how to evaluate private equity versus
public equity
um uh handle negotiations that involve
that
and um you know even now
uh this far away from london business
school after graduation i'm still
reaping the benefits and
i think that you know
you could definitely go to a different
school but i think in my experience
lyndon business school
was special and that continues to be
true
wow thank you for all of that everyone
you know all the points that you shared
and especially preston when you said
about the network
that's something that i hear regularly
from
current students and it's it's amazing
to hear that even after you graduate
that is something that you feel
like is a home for you which is i mean
you know what we always say is the
school it's a lifetime investment we
don't want our relationship to be with
you just for that year or two years that
you're at the school for so you know
that's definitely a testament to that
so thank you for sharing all of that um
my second question to you guys
um will be about kind of
exactly what the career center has to
offer so i know i gave like a really
really
quick summary of the different things
that you could be involved in the
different types of support that they
help you throughout that
throughout your year um was there
anything in particular that
you found stuck with you um or that
actually like really helped you at the
time maybe to secure your first role
or just now in your careers you look
back and you were like that was so
useful
for me it's like there's there's not
even a single doubt
it's definitely like practice interviews
um
i when i joined lbs i was so
rubbish at interviews you wouldn't
believe like i was really
properly properly bad um and i've done i
think i reckon between like 10 and 15
mock interviews with and here enrico who
used to
work in the career center i don't know
if kiara still works there
uh but they've like prepped me for group
assessment centers
individual interviews kind of compensate
based i have done so many like phone
interviews
zoom interviews that i felt uh
there was like a real difference even
like
before i started uh recruiting properly
there was like a really big difference
in terms of how well i could
appear on an interview with whether it
was like the first interview like kind
of a last round assessment center
um and that's definitely something that
i didn't get
at lse uh that kind of like tailored
one-to-one like if i need help i reach
out
and i like i get a one-to-one practice
uh or like with a couple of other
students and then kind of helping each
other in particular considering
i applied to the diversified sector
where there's potentially less
students applying um so less kind of
like
groups of students because there was
like a huge um
community of people for instance
applying to consulting and helping each
other and doing case studies
together and i was just like anyone
interested in the alcohol sector
which they all are for parties but not
for their career apparently
um but yeah that's definitely what i
took advantage of the most was those uh
kind of one-to-one practice interviews
and i don't think i i don't think i
would have gotten a job
if it wasn't for that help
that's great to hear does anyone else
have anything else to add
i would probably piggyback off of that
really quickly i think
you know a bulk of students in early
careers
in the past this may have changed always
wanted to go into finance and tech
and um you know or finance
and consulting excuse me and tech wasn't
always the
most popular choice and um you know
the in my experience early career center
in addition to the specialized
career centers um were just so useful in
understanding what exactly am i walking
into when i go into an interview because
tech interviews
if you're not familiar with them can be
all over the map you could get a
mckinsey
style case study you could get a group
interview
um you know how do i answer you know the
dreaded googliness question when i
interview with google
and and in my experience the um
tech in media career center david morris
who's fantastic
uh was always very helpful in practicing
my answer refining my story making sure
that it's compelling enough
to um you know more additional questions
that dive deeper into my background and
that was something that
you know uh at least in my case my
undergrad school could not do
um i think um both the early careers
career center and the specialized career
centers
were spectacular and providing a lot of
value
in in my initial conversations with
companies
absolutely and i know from students it's
so overwhelming
we know that obviously a lot of students
apply to the traditional kind of sectors
but there are obviously other
diversified sectors that students are
interested like yourself zoe and
obviously tech back then preston yes
but i think now it's there's an
increasing amount of
interest in that um but like was was it
like
intimidating to kind of stick to your
guns um i know that i've heard that from
other students and current students um
so it's interesting to actually hear
that
it was very interesting i think
especially because uh tech in the us
maybe in europe is a bit different but
in the united states
a role is posted and they want that role
filled in two weeks
and so um you know when you're going
through a graduate program
and you see all of your friends getting
offers from mckenzie and goldman sachs
and you know other companies and you're
starting to think
oh my can i really do this and um you
know
i i'm pretty sure if you were to ask
david morris he'd probably be like oh my
god not preston
um i probably was in his office weekly
um just
asking what am i doing how do i you know
manage this stress and
make sure am i doing everything
correctly um
yes it was intimidating to stick to my
guns and making sure that i
upheld my interests but um
the school was very supportive and it
worked out
maybe i can share a little bit about the
consulting process in the meantime since
we
heard now a little bit about
uh
of students that are practicing cases
but nevertheless the
career center is really helpful in kind
of
perfecting or making you really
competitive when it comes to case
studies
because they really
which really helped me to kind of off my
game
with my tasteless uh and also when it
comes to the
fifth part of the interview so i was
trying to sell yourselves to do things
in here
they were really
i think i'm gonna pick you back off that
statement as well um because i'm going
to consulting and most recently that was
also the case of mine everyone was
definitely
we were it's a very supportive community
within the students
but as well the careers of the support
is sort of insurmountable
you are supported by your peer leaders
who are mba or emba students they help
you case
you're supported by um the likes of
those who are sort of in this i think it
was
industry leads or industry experts and
they helped literally walk you through
okay well this is what consulting is
really like they help really debunk
all of your worries all of your cases
david morris is the case for tech i
spoke with him as well i remember he's
brilliant
and i think a part of that as well if
you're going what if and what career
industry does with you in the first few
weeks that's super special and will help
you a lot
is they will um they will go through
your cv with you with your peers and the
career center
and they'll really make sure that your
cv is ready for any
interview and for any company and that i
think is what makes
lbs special as a career center because
that
process having your cv going through
sort of 30 40 people your peers the
career center
that's what makes your cv and lbs cv
that's what makes us so sellable
apologies everyone i think i dropped out
there for a bit my connection i hope i
didn't miss too much
um but if all of you guys have given
your answers my next question
um would be in terms of was there kind
of any
favorite class or any kind of content
that you digested during your year that
you actually found useful
or you thought or later on now in your
careers you're just like wow that was
like
that was great i i i needed that or
you've applied it somewhere in your
career because it's it's great to talk
about what the career center offer but
i think for a lot of these students it's
also the content um
of the program and the academics of it
so
you know was there anything that went
kind of hand in hand
um with your careers at all
i mean there's there's kind of like two
different things first and ricardo
mentioned it
earlier is that how practical the like
mentor mandatory classes actually are
and having done a bcs management i can
tell it's like alice he was preparing me
for a phd and i was like that's not what
i want
and then i went to obvious and it was
like let's prepare you for the real life
so
this is the theory but like let's let's
apply it straight away
um in terms of like class that prepared
me the most i think the
the electives and the fact that you can
choose based on exactly what you need or
exactly
what skills you're looking to develop i
my negotiation skills were about as low
as my interviewing skills
uh so i chose the negotiation uh course
which was absolutely incredible uh also
that kind of has a huge benefit
of being mixed with people from other
classes rather than just
the memes so you like end up doing group
projects with mbas
and i think definitely that's one of
like my two electives but in particular
the negotiation class
i was just like the fact that i get to
do this is
at school makes me rethink the entire
like definition of the word school
um because it was is so practical so
like i still use it
um i had a similar course when i started
working so definitely the electives
and potentially because it's answering a
need that i knew i had to kind of
address uh as a big highlight for me
as part of my year in the mim
i think for me uh the
the general coursework that everybody
takes is um fantastic it's more like a
crash course
in uh the business world um but the
electives
uh are self-chosen and they're across
the entire school
and so um the elective that stuck with
me the most
was um the strategy and entrepreneurship
elective
i forget the number but it was taught by
professor rupert um
at the time and that it
essentially was a course where you had
to come up with an entrepreneurship idea
build a product basically and
pitch an actual panel of venture
capitalists
on why this product deserves to be built
and
the class would divide after that into
the
successful products um so you would you
know if your product wasn't successful
you'd join a product that you thought
was and you want to put
you know your work all semester behind
it um
and you would actually bring that
product to market
there were a lot of companies startups
that were created out of that class
which i thought was
phenomenal and it's something
interesting because it still
is something that i use today we had to
write a brd or a business review doc
a pre faq which essentially is like a
questionnaire list
for any internal stakeholder teams to
build something
and then how do you market the product
how do you price it did you price it
correctly
how are you going to you know sell it do
you need to engage a sales team
um literally from start to finish
building a product and you know i've
tapped into that in my current team at
amazon
and uh throughout my career um and
that's something that i
you know can honestly say i didn't
expect um i still keep in touch with a
lot of the people that i met in that
class a lot of them were mbas or
executive mbas
um and there are still things that i
pull up from that character and i still
keep the the book that was recommended
by rupert on hand just in case
um and you know that's something that i
think i was pleasantly surprised about
wow that's really really cool does
anyone else have anything else to add
i i think i can only underline what what
zoe and president just said about the
lectures but one course that i also
enjoyed in particular
was a course on behavioral management
which kind of
teaches you about all the biases and
like all the pitfalls and everything
that you
kind of encounter in the business world
which i think was very
very helpful uh from from a perspective
where i am now
because you have to consider so many
different point of views so many
different
uh perspectives on on different issues
and different topics
and and this course really made you
aware of
uh yeah what biases actually exist
in in management and also what what
theories are be
behind there and what what kind of
theories you can use in order to
to solve a problem so this was a course
i i really enjoyed in which i can really
um uh
use in my professional career right now
yeah i really do think so and it's so
funny when you said that
i see zoe and preston nodding um
so it does you know juggle memory and
they do remember
the kind of content that they that they
obviously
you know took in um i guess i have
a question here for for catherine
because
obviously you um you just graduated
um and i think 20 20 years a year was
definitely a difficult one and you know
we're still kind of seeing that
throughout this year but
we get so many questions about um
you know how the school really adapted
to you know
distant learning and our hybrid model
and and
and all of that came with last year so
if you just kind of want to give us
a bit about your experience um on that
and shed some
light would be great
sure i'm happy to discuss that so we
started sort of the hybrid model and
i guess for classes from home around
march during london's initial lockdown
and looking back i would say lbs adapted
brilliantly not just from
the teaching side but also from the
career center side and i'll touch upon
both sides so with our lecturers we were
based all across
all of us are based across the world and
i had my favorite lecture um digital
marketing for your elective
if you go to lbs i recommend you take it
he's great he was teaching us at about
2am on the uh on the west coast he lives
in california
and the class is about 9 a.m in london
time
and all of us raced around the world so
again they made our teachers
our lecturers regardless of the time
made sure that we had time uh and made
sure that assessments were sort of given
with consideration to the time
differences
to the difficulties students were facing
obviously it's a global pandemic no
um it's very hard time for everyone so
they brilliantly in terms of teaching in
terms of examinations as well
now in terms of the career center i
particularly benefited from this because
i
had my graduate offer before but i lost
an internship over because of the
pandemic
and through coaching with the career
center if you're going on after going
into for like one-on-one interviews um
and through thinking and rethinking my
strategy i had a few sessions with the
different peer leaders as well as the
career center of industry leads
that really helped me and i ended up
having seven different internship offers
for the summer one of which is the one
i'm doing right now
so props to the careers team really for
making time for us scheduling skype um
scheduling skype hours and shooting
slots were available across different
time zones i'm based seven hours away
from london and i'm sure the students in
the us could probably see the same thing
wow thank you for that insight katherine
um
and just in terms i don't i know that
you know preston you back in
2017 i don't know if you remember too
much but um
i would love to hear about um your
involvement
in you know any of the clubs or you know
student-led activities
and maybe some of the things that you
picked up on or that supported you in
general
career-wise or in terms of personal
development that'll be really
interesting to hear absolutely um
you know i think one thing that i want
to make sure and highlight is the mems
and early career students in general
get to join these same clubs that mbas
executive mbas and sloanes can
can join in i think i might have missed
a few programs in there but
everybody joins the same club and that
is spectacular
for a variety of reasons you get to
network and mingle with
students across the entire school who
have a variety of experiences and more
than likely have
taken on a project or worked in the
sector that you're interested in joining
when you graduate so you can really tap
into them as a resource
but i was the um vice president
of the tech media club and it's just a
fancy way of saying that i was on the
executive committee
um working alongside a lot of mbas who
were also trying to you know network
their way into tech
and we did a variety of projects i i
know
the global immersion field trip at least
in 2020 might have looked a little bit
different than it did
previous years but a lot of students
facilitated or clubs facilitated their
own trips and so
um i went to you know the
san francisco trip um from a gift and
then through the tech media club we
organized trips to china
trips to uh broader europe um
back to america if we wanted to um on
our own and and
you know being in the tech ecosystem
with a techie media club was absolutely
fascinating
and i got to learn a lot more about you
know what does it mean to join a startup
is that something that i want to do is
that something i even want to entertain
um and i wouldn't have gotten that if i
hadn't been
a part of the tech media club there's
also a lot of fun clubs you can join as
well um like i was a member of the
foodie club
which is exactly what it sounds like it
was actually started by a mem
in my class and the point of the club
was to showcase
you know bring your own culture to the
school and showcase the food from
from your culture and so i'm from dallas
texas and so i brought a lot of barbecue
and
tamales and tacos and salsa and um
queso i don't know if anybody from the
us knows about that and
you know that was just a fantastic fun
club to learn more about
you know the different cultures the
world that you know you don't really
expect
before you go to business school um so
there's a variety of professional clubs
you can join which are fantastic
and a variety of fun clubs you can join
which
um are in their own way a little bit
more fantastic
any other involvements that anyone wants
to share
okay i will move on to um
another question just one before we
actually dive into the
q a box so
what is it that you would recommend
incoming students
you know so how would you recommend that
they use the network
um to their advantage so you know when
they become a student and then you know
as alumni there's obviously the alumni
network
what are your kind of tips or advice
um in terms of you really utilizing that
i think the biggest advice that you can
give
a current student or a young person kind
of joining a company because it works i
give exactly the same advice to
grads who join the audio now is
like the power of actually reaching out
to people and
it i remember back albeit so back when i
started working and i feel scary but
when you think about it there's like
there's genuinely no bad scenario like
the worst case is the person is too busy
and will miss your email and we'll
forget to reply
but you have got generally nothing to
lose
um and like reaching out to someone if
anything they're probably going to feel
quite flattered
that their help is needed
whether it's to like ask a couple
questions about the industry about the
company
if it's more like specific questions
being like i know this is the right
company for me and i want to apply like
can you support me um so i think
definitely like the power of reaching
out and
like that kind of ties back to some of
us saying one of the reasons we joined
lbs in the first place was the strengths
of the network
so definitely reaching out and making
sure you use that network
um again not many people in the class
were applying to
the fmcg sector but i found a
i think a 2014 meme alumni
working at diago that that i could
contact to help me like prepare for the
assessment center
which turns out was nothing like what i
had prepared was a career center
so you you do get really valuable like
advice
whether it's gonna help you get into the
company where the person you're
contacting
works whether it's gonna help you
realize that's actually not for you
in particular in a year we're like every
like a
big chunk of the class is going to be
applying to finance and consulting so
getting those kind of insider tips will
help you one find what's right for you
and kind of then
help you go after it um but definitely
there's like there's definitely nothing
nothing to lose
when reaching out to people
absolutely is there anything else anyone
would like to add
okay so that will lead us into
the section where we and our alumni
get to answer everyone's questions
so as alumni of course we've got the q a
box
uh for you guys to view the questions we
don't have much in here
and we've got an interesting one
actually um it sounds like the mim
program itself was very intense
how busy was your year were you on the
go
all the time um and if so how did you
manage it i i always like to
to kind of know
i think that's actually a really good
question because i mean it's only 10
months so it is quite busy
since it's only a one-year program but i
think that's a reason why
many people actually choose lbs and only
detent a 10-month program because they
kind of want to progress very quickly to
their career
so you have three terms and within that
you have to also
uh do like all your recruiting and
everything so so it is quite busy but
uh just one one uh tip or
one thing i would suggest you doing is
that you kind of try to prioritize
what your interests actually are and and
where you want to go
um in terms of career but also the club
interests
so i know that there were a lot of
people in the beginning who went to like
all the career fairs all the company
presentations all the club
introductions and everything so they
were a little bit overwhelmed but i
think
if you kind of picked like a few
different clubs that you're really
really interested in and focus on them
and then kind of pick the the the
interesting sounding company
presentations and and career affairs
and things like that then it's really
manageable but
it is busy it's only ten months so
um yeah but i think it's manageable if
you if you prioritize
i'll quickly piggyback on that also uh
prioritization is very much
key uh i don't know if i mentioned this
earlier but during the program i
actually worked
part-time i was a part-time consultant
for startups in london
and uh that on top of projects on top of
classes
on top of interviews on top of clubs um
on top of fun if you want to squeeze in
some time uh
was a lot and i think um i wouldn't have
changed anything that i did
um but prioritization is definitely key
like understanding
what are you there to achieve are you
there to achieve
uh you know land and offer your dream
company or
network very hard or have a great time
and travel the world like really truly
the world is your oyster when you're in
the program and
um it it it can be completely shaped
however you'd like and
you know i know some school officials
probably wouldn't be too thrilled by me
advocating
work part-time uh while you're in
classes but i do know
um from firsthand experience that that
helps you know solidify my story as to
why i wanted to transition from finance
into tech
and get a real taste of you know
early stage startups and i think i
wouldn't have gotten that had i not
made additional time uh to work part
time
and uh if anybody has any more questions
on that i'm more than happy to connect
offline but wanted to piggyback there as
well
definitely agree with that prior
prioritizing your time
is key not just on the program but i
guess
in life um so that's that's that's a
good tip there
um we have a question here that says
will we have an m of it mfa version of
this yes we will have another event
for mfa and mam alumni um i believe
that'll be taking
place next month so definitely do sign
up for that
um we have a question that says um as
you were successfully admitted do you
have any application advice
at all um for any of the applicants
um or people who are looking to submit
their applications
i think having obviously like applied to
more than one masters and also having
been part of the interview process
uh a year ago for uh the mems that would
be in class now
it's fair to say like there's loads i
know it's written like gmat
etc in the question so there's loads
there's truth is there's loads of good
students that are going to apply so
really good grades really good diplomas
really good gmat scores um but
i'd say instead of like trying to be the
perfect candidate
that like watches a ted talk every
morning to wake up and
kind of sounds a bit dull try and
make sure what you show is how you
differentiate yourself from others
um so they're gonna ask you can
kind of why is obvious the right kind of
school for you
and to achieve your kind of career goals
and make like
we had such a diverse class um
if you think your undergraduate in drama
ricardo i think sophie has studied drama
before lbs in our year
so if you can show why having like
studied in drama before is gonna help
you be really successful
in your career and that lbs is gonna
help you achieve
like get like get an open door into that
career
then your voice will be kind of much
stronger than
i have a good gmat score and that's
gonna get me in a good consulting firm
um so definitely focusing on what makes
you
different from others and how that's
going to help you lend
your job and how the school is going to
help you will make your
profile more interesting more
interesting than just
being a really good student because
truth is everyone's really smart but i
was
impressed by how diverse the backgrounds
of everyone the class
uh like the diversity not just in
countries but in terms of
undergrads and and you look at like the
sports that people were doing and we had
a portuguese girl in the class i was
like portugal champion and
one type of gymnastics i was just like
if she's managed to show that that
resilience
is going to help her in her career well
then maybe it
might matters more than like 20 20
points on your gmats
i definitely do want to piggyback on
that also like um
i do interviews for the early careers
programs
uh pretty regularly and i think most
people think
you know the gmat's the hardest part of
the application process it's not it's
the interview
and when you think about it from the
school's perspective
you have a certain number of spots you
can award to students
so that makes this an investment uh
truly
and if you're going to give this spot to
someone
you need to give it to someone who's
going to be a good
alumni so we're looking for um
you know the usual statistics that most
people might
gpa grades et cetera you know everybody
if you've reached to the interview stage
you have that already
but what else can you provide the school
what can you provide the class what are
you looking to give back
um and you know does that
lend itself to continue in a lifetime
relationship
i think linda business school
particularly it is a lifetime
relationship
and that's something that you know if
you
are a good alumni you'll you'll be a
part of that um
and so you know really think about that
think about
you know in addition to name brand
schools your name brand internships and
good gmat and good grades what
additional can you bring to the school
yourself and what's unique about you um
you know what are your passions and how
can you contribute in that way
i think one other tidbit i would love to
provide having done many of these
interviews both
you know for professional uh
circumstances and for london business
school
really understand the question before
answering
um i get a lot of very rehearsed answers
where you know it's very clear
you think i want you to respond a
certain way and if you memorize the
formula and regurgitate the answer in a
way that makes sense
um you know i'll check mark it um
i you know really understand what we're
asking because if
it's an interesting question or if we
feel like it's not been truly answered
i'll dive deeper
um and you know more often than not most
uh interviewees when you do dive deeper
the
question kind of falls flat because most
people have memorized
what you they think you want to hear so
truly
digest the question understand what's
being asked
and and have a dialogue that's really
truly all the interview is
and maybe just at one thing i think what
is really helpful if you reach out to
either current students or alumni
actually before applying because they
can really help you
kind of understand what the program is
all about what they're actually looking
for
and and so you can be more specific in
your application and also in your
interview
so everyone is always really happy uh to
answer any questions to incoming
students whether they've
already applied or they're in the
interview process or they're already
accepted to the school that's something
i can i can really recommend to everyone
absolutely there you have it folks
insider
knowledge right there and insider tips
um i hope you guys all take that on
board and just before we close
off um one final question um
we've got yusuf here who asks how do
industry positions which mim students
take on post-grad
graduation they typically differ from
that of fresh undergrad so i guess in
your opinion
how do you think that this experience
really
elevated you or allowed you to get that
post-grad opportunity that you that you
achieved
maybe i can answer that at least from i
think it's a little bit
different in germany since i i started
working here
but i think it really helps you first of
all to get into the interview process
for most of the positions so it doesn't
really help you
get the job the name lbs on your cv but
it really helps you to get into the
interview process
and and from there it's basically
everything is possible i would say then
you can really prepare from the from the
interview process
and it really sets you apart from all
the different applicants out there who
only have
an undergraduate degree and it helps you
to get into into the interviews
i agree with that um completely in part
because
there were law firms that i applied to
when i was my undergrad and didn't even
look at my cv but once i was in lbs once
i fixed you know my tv didn't
proper interview practice i was getting
callbacks from them and similarly the r
firms and they do recruit lbs
specifically not only for mems
but they only take master's graduates so
when you're thinking about oh how is
this position to promote from an
undergraduate can i just go straight
into industry you can do that
but there are opportunities that might
not you might not have even known about
and that's what's so special about them
that introduces you to those options
yeah i think oh sorry do you want to go
preston
i'll be quick um i think one other thing
i wanted to mention also is
this may be specific to the u.s but um
the mim
is an asset even now in my career um i'm
not going to say employers mistake it
for an mba
they don't um but uh i have been able to
get opportunities
uh promotions work on projects because
of my master's degree where you know my
colleagues may not have a master's or
advanced degree
um or they do they just don't have the
same international exposure experience
that i do
and you know i think it's easy to think
about the mim as being
um an asset early on your career and
then after that nobody cares
um it's not true um i assumed that would
be true
and i've pleasantly found that it's not
and like beyond that i think doing a
masters
after your undergrad adds like a lot of
maturity to
your like your own uh
logic and your your like thought process
and
that means that once once you go to the
interview and you're
being asked why is this the right career
for you why should we hire you
etc then you have a much more kind of
articulate and constructed answer
um that people um will
be more impressed with because they're
like oh that person isn't just applying
because we're top three
uh or top tier consulting firm but
because there's like
a real thought process behind it and
because you get the maturity from
meeting new people from new backgrounds
was like more experiences
rather than just the people you've had
in your undergrads
thank you so much for all of that
insight um
it was honestly a great learning
experience for me
so i hope that everyone else listening
found it really useful for those of you
asking
um if if there's a way to get in contact
with us definitely contact the mim inbox
i've just put it in the chat
so i do apologize if i wasn't able to
get through to all the questions but
definitely ask us um via that inbox
thank you so much to our alumni today
um i don't want to keep you any longer i
know that we've
ticked over our time um so we hope to
hopefully see you
um in future events um and to everyone
listening we hope you found it
insightful we hope everyone is keeping
safe
and do get in touch with us on the
recruitment team if you have any further
questions
and i'm sure our alumni are always here
to kind of support you as well and ask
answer any questions so definitely get
in touch
in the meantime please do stay safe and
have a lovely rest of the day wherever
you are in the world
thank you

Idioma: en

I chose to do the most recent financial
analysis because of the great lbs print
and because I heard that they teach in a
more practical way I wanted to study in
London because it's the number one
financial center of the world and
furthermore it's a great place for
startups and for FinTech startups in
particular the quality of the students
of the MFA was truly amazing and the
class was also really rich in diversity
from the 80 students there were almost
40 nationalities and in the first couple
of months I truly enjoyed listening to
other stories and their backgrounds the
best advice that I can give a new
student starting the MFA at lbs would be
to make the best out of your time
problem is there is so much to do at
London Business School you could join
one of the societies you could do
part-time internship
you should definitely mingle with the
other classmates as well from the other
courses you should also mingle with the
LVS alumni network I reached out to
someone from the OBS alumni network we
start a co-investigator is a FinTech
platform that allows investors to invest
in venture capital investments on a dual
body basis and after a couple of copy
chats with this founder he actually
offered me an internship which I did

### Masters in Financial Analysis | London Business School

Idioma: en

[Music]
the master in financial analysis is a
new program to help young students not
with a long work experience to enter in
the world of Finance the MFA is a
one-year program and during that year
the students learn about various parts
of finance a bit more about the various
fields in addition to accounting e e
omics and also a lot about technological
data collection softwares I chose to
study at London business school for
three main reasons first of all I wanted
to benefit from lbs's Prestige
reputation and Global Network secondly
for its location wanting to work in
finance I chose lbs for its proximity to
the First Financial Center in the world
and thirdly I chose lbs for his program
one of the great aspects of the early
career program is a business ersion week
here you get the possib of meeting
people that work in different Industries
in different segments from Google to
Banks like Deutch Bank we have also
introduced a global immersion week which
allows students to have an international
experience to understand what is means
to make business in a different culture
we at London Business School over the
years have created a great career center
who can really support the students in
finding the job that is more suitable to
them and also in understanding better
what it requires to have a great career
we encourage center help students during
their time at the school and well beyond
so we're really lifelong partners with
students and what we try and do is
provide students with a lifetime career
management toolkit so that includes
everything from CVS and cover letters
and mock interviews but even more than
that to thinking about how you assess
what your motivations are your strengths
are what kind of career you're really
after and how you keep up networks and
your brand throughout your career the
other thing that we have in career
center is 247 mobile access where we
have put everything ranging from
information about different Finance
sectors to interview handbooks and
workbooks that you can do on your own
anytime the career center really helped
me in finding my first job uh especially
regarding all the preparation for
interviews and tests in banking
especially the selection process is very
heavy you undergo a lot of tests a lot
of brain teasers interviews and the
career center really helped me in
preparing for all of these the other
piece of what we do is work with
recruiters we have an employer
engagement team that travels around the
world marketing our amazing students to
recruiters and in many cases we will
bring recruiters back to campus and host
all kinds of oncampus recruitment events
some of them are are individual
presentations and some are major
networking fairs one of the things that
lbs encourages a lot is to make contact
with alumni and people who are working
in the financial sector you can reach
out to practically anyone and they would
be extremely keen on sharing their
experience they'll be able to sit down
for a coffee go for lunch and eventually
it will make it easier for you to go
through the entire process of
understanding what you would like to
achieve and also on leing the job you
want our early careers graduate the joob
Jo the top financial institution and
organization and they usually can
progress there very fast I joined
Deutsche Bank as a graduate so I joined
the graduate program I've been on the
job for almost 3 years now and I got the
promotion from analyst to associate at
the beginning of this year I started the
graduate programs uh after graduation as
a rate sales and their fixed income
department and a month ago I decided to
quit Banking and to join funding Circle
A British fintech company that does
peer-to-peer lending I believe that the
whole Finance industry and sector is
undergoing massive changes at the moment
and I really wanted to be part of this
change I think this is an absolutely
fascinating time to come and study
Finance the world of Finance is just
evolving at a remarkable rate you can
take what you're learning and apply it
not just to Investment Banking or asset
management but the whole fintech sector
risk management working inside industry
and corporates it's all out there now
and it's a really exciting time anybody
who wants to do a career in finance
should want to be in London this is the
center for the financial studies Finance
research Finance careers and it's also
an International Center which means
wherever you want to have your career
later this is the place to be to learn
how it's done

Masters in management here in London the
me as we call it begins in September and
it carries on over three very intense
terms students are busy
involvement your job job search as well
and your personal
commitments the academic here is packed
with activities in and outside the
classroom the days are full and
intensive to offer students a complete
immersion in the topics taught but there
is also time for self-directed study
practice and reflection
economic issues understanding strategy
as well as learning analytical marketing
tools and term three helps you see the
bigger picture by tying up your acquired
knowledge and giving you more time to
take your two electives as well and
we'll talk about the electives in a
minute on top of all of the academics
that we just mentioned our students also
engage with what we call the PDP our
personal development program which
focuses on the soft skills needed in the
workplace such as key Communications and
problem solving skills this course
coures are delivered by external
Specialists and they support your
success at job interviews and in your
future role all students will attend a
set of core professional development
courses as well as choose topics uh
amongst our portfolio of sign up modules
that are maybe closer to their heart
example of the courses that we offer are
project management international
business etiquette design and delivery
representation sustaining creativity and
how the network
prop the currently 2016 class attends
lectures in three streams of 79 students
engaging faculty and classmates in
challenging discussion the students then
develop an in-depth understanding of the
same topic in their seminar groups and
then led by these seminar groups led by
teaching assistants enable them um
enable the students to work through
practical problem sets and revisit the
lecture material as well throughout the
year we also hold uh workshops computer
simulation exercises and individual
assignments as well grading on this
course is based on the combination of
class participation group work
individual work and exams while there
are midterm and final exams depending on
the subject there is no final project or
disseration and as you can see the M
year is very very very intense and very
very busy some of you might consider
doing a 2-year program and some of you
also may have an interest in Asia and if
that is the case then you can look at
attending our Global Masters in
management so the global me really is a
continuation of the master in management
so students who join the the global M uh

write um when you go and studying China
and you will be T to apply what you've
learned in practice to your thesis you
will work closely with mentors to
complete this thesis as part of a

interviews and provide guidance on how
to negotiate terms of the your job
offers so once again this is a very very
comprehensive program where you have the
time to develop your career goals
especially if you're looking to work in
or with Asia over the two years but if
you already know where your career goals
are you're very focused on finance and
you would like to do uh a program that
is very intensely going to prepare you
for a career in finance and you could
look into doing our newly launched
Masters in financial analysis a program
specifically designed to fit the needs
and trends of the finance Marketplace
within a diverse environment creating a
stimulating learning process for young
professionals we are looking to recruit
for next year a class of 70 top

study of the core Finance and Accounting
disciplines and Trends in addition to
exposure to economics and management
science in operations content it is
structured around the five fundamental
pillars of finance that is accounting
Asset Management corporate finance
financial econometrics and financial
markets the MFA will incorporate the
most current Financial software such as
Bloomberg matlb or morning star and the
content will also be applied and
datadriven teaching you about markets
who are the main one of the major
strategies in these markets that these
players are
implementing as you can see some of the
elements of the program over overlap
with the Mastery management and Global
Mastery management as well offering a
shared experience between all of our ear
career students and there is a lot more
information about this program on our
website we now have a full U Masters in
financial brochure that you can download
so if you want to learn more about the
MFA I recommend that you visit our
website as well
right so we've had a quick overview of
uh all of our programs here in our early
careers portfolio and we wanted to maybe
dig a bit deeper into other areas that
are shared Within These programs that we
think our early career students can
benefit from on top of the academics
studying at lbs you'll be fully immersed
in the business school environment there
is no undergrad here on campus and
that's quite different from your
experience at University already
students will have the opportunity to
tellor you their curriculum about
participating in El electives um mean
students can choose to immerse
themselves in new topics that are
relevant to their career interest and
that may include subjects not covered in
death during your core courses for
example supply chain or sports
management Anda students will be looking
to specialize Furs in areas of finance
that hold their
interest students will be sitting
alongside NBAs Masters in finance
students Executive MBA students allowing
for a truly distinctive opportunity to
engage in class discussion with students
from across all career levels and
although everyone here has different
levels of experience it is you know
they're sitting together and they have
they're here because they have the
motivation to excel in business and
they're really Keen to share knowledge
and expertise uh and that is really a
unique offering of the
school students also work very closely
with their assigned study groups of five
or six people on assignments cases and
projects um study groups are um created
on purpose so that gender country of
origin GMA or GRE undergraduate degree
topic and languages spoken are different
and study groups change on a terly basis
so you will have to learn to work very
closely with a team of people that are
very different from you and you will
have to be very very efficient at this
because a term you know only last three
months so you have to start again in the
next term and Forge those bonds and
Forge that sort of trust within it team
uh and that's a really fantastic
exercise that prepares you for working
in teams later on in real
life we also have a very active
community life here on campus and we
have up to 85 active student clubs SP in
four categories professional clubs
Regional clubs sports club and Social
Clubs any one of our clubs could play an
important role in your future for
instance the professional clubs allow
you to learn about different industries
that are relevant to your future career
where the weion clubs give you an
insight into what it could be like
working in a specific part of the world
or with a different culture all clubs
organize numerous training sessions
guest speaker talks annual conferences
fun social events as well Sports
tournaments and tracks
abroad clubs also hold a large number of
events offering student access to
Industry experts such as the women
business conference the E business Forum
Africa day the tech and media Summit
tedex all the art investment conference
just to name a few clo will give you
opportunities to demonstrate your
leadership potential if you set up as a
if if you step up as a representative as
well as offering you great networking
opportunities with students from other
programs other programs such as the
MBA a more formal opportunity to do that
is also offered the form of mentorship
as an early career student you can
request to be mentored by an NBA or myid
student as well as alumni program
these mentors will help you guide uh you
as you start your year on campus our M
students also have regular contact with
a very experienced loones who support
that business immersion we project and I
want to talk a bit more about business
immersion we it's a fantastic
opportunity to immerse yourself into the
re real business world it's five days of
company visits around London in February
each year and it focuses on creating
networking opportunities while gaining a
deeper understanding of what makes
businesses tick this week allows
students uh the opportunity to discover
a variety of companies and learn about
the way they operate and the challenges
they may face all of those visits are H
companies offices so you also have the
chance to experience a variety of work
of of Works spaces and get a sense for
their own corporate culture just to name
a few uh companies that have
participated in business immersion week
in the past few years that includes BCG
McKenzie PL numera color Capital the TV
Capital Disney Google J&J L'Oreal BBC
and also the London Stock
Exchange the scope of business immersion
work is extended to our Global immersion
field trips which giv students the
opportunity to travel abroad to learn
about how businesses is done in that
particular region students this year
have had the opportunity to travel to
Paris Milan and Munich silip Valley uh
this year they will go for the first
time to Mumbai bore and also
Shanghai as mentioned earlier our Global
me students will also visit Thailand
Singapore Hong Kong in their second
year what what we call the gifts the
global emerging field trip what they
entail is corporate visits on site
seminars with local corporate Employers
in alumni and also academic visits to
local universities and that provides you
a number of opportunity to gain exposure
to a different way of doing business to
a different cultural environment you
will need meet local students exchange
ideas and build on your existing Global
Network to um you know create more
connections with industry specialist we
know for a fact that the trip to silic
very last year was extremely popular
students had the chance to spend a day
at a Stanford in a Design Center they
went to visit Electronic Arts Apple
Google it was an amazing experience and
I'm sure the M 2016 this year are
looking forward to visiting more places
again this year
right so we now have a good overview of
um what our programs can offer you and I
want to maybe for uh my couple of slides
I want to maybe talk to you a bit more
about why you might want to do all this
and uh the idea of developing your
career through these um programs um I
imagine a lot of you are wondering okay
what kind of support am I going to get
if I come to London Business School in
terms of planning for my career and

understand how to um cope when you asked
to fill in graduate um training tests
and assessment centers um in this next
slide or in this slide actually you can
see the sectors that are mean 2014
graduates went into obviously we don't
have any data for the MFA yet because
it's launching this year but you can see
um on our website as well a full andur
report for the main 2014 graduates as
you can see it's an even split between
Finance Consulting and other type of
Industries which could include energy um
media technology healthc Care Family
businesses manufacturing retails or
broad uh range of sectors here that our
students can go into and as you can see
for for in on the next slide throughout
the year the students will be able to
attend on campus company presentations
also conduct office visits across a
variety of Industry sectors uh
especially through a dedicated career
week that happens in term one in October
and this these are excellent ways to
connect to the companies that you can
see on the screen and understand whether
or not they're the right company in
industry for you during the last
Academic Year our students have had the
opportunity to meet with over 120
recruiters at both specific events uh
and also wider cross program school
events such as our industry evening or
FCO which is our financial consulting
our recruitment event on this slide you
can see a selection of the companies who
have made offers to our graduates since
the program began in 2010 companies in
sector ranging from Consulting to
financial services to energy to

information given to you right there
about what our programs about what are
the the um specific elements of M
program unique such as that sort of um
opportunity to really connect with
students across uh others programs
through mentorships or eles through
trips through visits we've also talked
to you about the support we're going to
give you to be able to build your career

to an who's going to talk you more about
how can you apply to the course if now
you are completely interested and um
dedicated to apply to one of our
programs thank you L
sir so now that we have discussed the
school and our programs in detail um as
Lisa said I'm going to talk to you
through a bit about how to apply to the
program the next steps you may need to
take um well I mean the first things you
should be considering are what do you
need to become an lbs student
yes we do have minimum entry
requirements a degree equivalent to a UK
21 GMAT or Joy minimum of 600 at 650 on
the MFA less than one year of
professional postgraduate experience or
less than two years of nontraditional
business experience students come from a
wide range of backgrounds in the men in
terms of nationality study discipline
and work experience and it creates a
very unique and interesting learning
environment meeting the entry
requirements as well as student
similarities and and as you can see from
the four profiles on on the screen they
are all giving examples of people who
come from different backgrounds who'
have done different things but also go
on to do many different things so I'm
going to give you a tiny bit of time to
just read through these profiles
[Music]
so before moving on to what the
application process looks like for our
programs we'd like to share some general
advice about considerations You may wish
to reflect on prior to beginning your
application on this slide you'll see
some of the key areas you look for
applicants to demonstrate in their
application including an awareness of
what qualities you'll bring to the
program and what skills you may to home
your commitment to the program and
school demonstrated through research and
a desire to succeed academically and
professionally an interest in working
culturally and experientially diverse
teams and a desire to learn from those
around you and share your experience to
support the learning of
others along with these considerations
before submitting your application we
also recommend that you carefully
research each program and school you may
be interested in applying to we strongly
encourage you to speak with admissions
teams and Coach students and try and
visit the campuses if you're able to do
so I mean after all you do want to see
where you'll be spending the next year
of your life you should also talk about
your decision with those Close to You
particularly if someone else will be
funding your studies also this will be
your first time away from home for an
extended amount of time you want to
discuss with family friends and
significant others how the distance may
affect your relationships and how you
cope with this change reflect upon your
research and discussions start thinking
about the reasons why you taking this
step and why it will lead you do
research costs and funding options
choose a postgraduate program is a big
decision a big financial and time
commitment so you need to be fully
confident in your decision now once you
research school and programs spoken with
your family and friends about your
options and make a decision it will be
time to prepare your application each
postgraduate program has a different
application process and to pray for ours
you'll need to do the f
first register with our online
application system to gain access to the
application to the program of your
choice you can log on and off the
application as often as you want so you
can take a look at it today and spend
the next few weeks working on it until
you're ready to submit we do recommend
that you take your time and only once
you're certain that you're submitting an
application that is truly reflected of
your voice motivations and caliber
please note that you can only apply to
one of our programs at the same time
we require a CD which we would ask you
to keep to one page possible you may
also wish to use our CD template which
is available on our
website it's very important that you
take the time to think about the essay
questions that will require you to write
as there may be multiple topics within
each question this is your time to tell
us who you are outside of your test
schools and grades so do your research
know your strengths and tell us a story
tell us about your aspirations your
motivations what makes you who you are
we also require the GMA or gr and you
must take on these tests prior to
submitting your application these tests
evaluate a specific skill set no
important tools used to make your
applicant's attitude for graduate
management study and it also allows us
to distinguish between candidates using
the same standardized tool so then we do
look for scores in the range of 600 to
800 we require you take all section of
the test so we assess your verbal
quantitative ir and analytical writing
scores the medum score that we look for
is 600 so if you're taking go you should
aim for a minimum section score of 160
if you're planning a career in top tier
consultancy we would recommend that you
do take the gmap because the companies
will be looking for this score MFA
applicant should aim for a Guna of 650
and go scores of 165 and
above now if English is not your native
language you may be required to take
English test such as the toall I
Cambridge CAE or CPE or the Pearson test
of English you may be exempting taking
this test if your entire undergraduate
degree is called in English and you can
provide evidence of this or if you have
lived in an English speaking country for
at least 2
years now although many of you will not
completed your degree applying to prior
to applying for the program you will
need to submit a copy of your University
transcript and grades that is current at
the time of when you
submit fin we require two references and
if possible we would like to see one
academic and one professional reference
from the internship for instance we us
an online reference system to contact
the referee directly will not accept
references that are sent by other means
it is important you select referees who
know you well you can comment on
specific questions about their
interactions with you in the workpl OR
classroom the title doesn't matter but
rather how the ref knows you it also
gives us an indication of your ability
to build networks so all this
information
your application is ready to be
submitted but before doing so please
note that will not process your
application until all supporting
documents receive so it's important you
have everything ready by the time of
submission on our website we provide
recommended deadlines support
application timing and decisions are
made on a rolling basis in most cases
you will receive a final decision within
6 weeks after submitting your completed
application 8 weeks during periods
interview decisions will be communicated
within this time frame generally within
two to three week three working weeks of
submission of your completed application
we do run a rolling admissions process
so as much as we run and have
recommended deadlines you can actually
put an application in at any time during
the year applicants who are selected to
interview Must ALL conduct must conduct
a face Toof face interview with whether
member by alumni or member our rec
admissions team if you located in the UK
or Continental Europe you will be asked
to travel to London
otherwise you will aim to conduct your
interview in a location you are able to
easily travel to as I mentioned our
conduct these interviews locally and
occasionally we may conduct interviews
over Skype for E
logistic interviews are held over 3 to 4
week period after which time final
decisions are
set once interviews are conducted the
admissions committee will review the
application for a final time and
candidates will then receive a decision
based on their profile and interview
feedback all final decisions are
communicated via email those who receive
an offer will become admits and will
have access to our portal Network and
receive support from a variety of
sources before they join us in September
detailed information about this process
is available online we're always happy
to receive any queries you may have if
you have any questions regarding your
eligibility or un sure whether this is
the right program for
you um please feel free to submit your
CV through the upload button on our
website and send your queries n london.
edu or MF
l.edu the ad missions team will then
provide you with

### Global Immersion Field Trip - Silicon Valley | London Business School

the seon value gift is an amazing
opportunity uh not just to go to the US
but also to learn about startups to
learn about big tech companies we had
the opportunity to feel a bit of the
atmosphere of Entrepreneurship and
Innovation that is in the valley which
is really remarkable and you can only
understand it once you actually are
there all the companies that we visited
allowed me to take away something new
and something different but for me the
highlights were the D school at Stanford
University Singularity University in the
NASA research center in Silicon Valley s
Source uh at The Innovation lab and what
was really unique was that we managed to
talk one to one in a really informal way
to sea level Executives and even to
founders of actual companies they were
extremely open discussing with us what
were the big issue they faced to build
up the company what are they still
facing and and how they approach those
sort of problems and how what's the
relationship with the investors they
have we felt we were part of
conversation we didn't fa we were just
trying to you know learn about what they
they're actually doing we were doing it
with them and that that was brilliant I
honestly believe we caused a really good
impression next to those companies and
some of them actually asked for CVS of
students after the presentations were
over being in Silicon Valley reaffirmed
for me that education and education
technology is quite a powerful space
what they've done with business and the
products that they've come up with have
changed the world are changing the world
and will change the world and so that
was a really really valuable
opportunity the networking opportunities
uh in that gift were really a a unique
feature of that trip in my free time in
Silicon Valley I was able to network and
meet up with um companies and
institutions that are doing some really
cool stuff with technology to empower
the space
so we haven't just met companies and and
and big companies and small entrepreneur
we actually enjoyed San Francisco as a
whole city it's amazing there we went to
the Giants it's the baseball team over
there we went to a couple of bars couple
of restaurants all over the city and we
actually stayed a couple of days more
with with some friends and we managed to
do a small road trip along along the
west coast we took the road rent the
cars and did the proper American
Experience uh did whole California coast
and that was just brilliant I think it
was a really good trip for all of us
because the MIM program is really short
it's just 10 months and so for us to be
spending one intense week in silicum
Valley exploring a new city together I
think that really brought us quite
closely together and that was really
cool

### The MiM Student Experience | London Business School

well today I feel very excited it's like
a sweet-and-sour moment because we're
graduating it's sour because I feel sad
about this fantastic you coming to an
end but it's sweet at the same time
because I'm very excited what is about
to come been waiting for this day for
quite a long time whole year got to meet
a lot of people now I've got my dream
job coming together today well it's it's
a little bit sad to say goodbye to the
all the friends that we've met but it's
also great to have created such a
international network of people it's
literally now we can visit any country
and we are going to find someone from
LBL so it's a great feeling to know that
we can keep in touch I heard a lot about
the RBS Network before coming here but
it's only now that I'm graduating and
I've had the chance experience it for
myself that I realized that the strength
of the collaboration within that network
and the quality of the friendships and
that you make during the course of the
years it's insanely second to that I
think London Business School has
prepared us the whole women program for
our next step so whatever is there to
come I'm really excited about it as well
although in the past my education was
focused particularly on the academics
lbs marries that very well with the soft
skills and the networking etc and it
really does polish you into all-around
businessman it's a very holistic
education and I think it's exactly what
I needed an insatiable why the men I
just think it's an opportunity and an
experience that no one should miss what
we're seeing now from the masters in
management stood in the five years they
have changed the way lbs is business
they have changed the way we educate
they have brought us to a new level of
innovation they're young spirit is now
in everything we do at LPL I think the
three words I would use to describe my
experience on the Masters of management
at lbs would be location community and
fun London itself is a very strategic
choice for business because it's a
financial hub it's a connection between
North America and Europe and I think
especially going to school somewhere in
a place you want to work makes a lot
more sense than say if I would Spain
Germany something the moon program is
the youngest of our programs it feels
like it everybody's full of beans they
work hard they love being in London they
love being together and I know they use
their time to reform for myself I'm
going to be working in finance in
England I'm very excited had I not gone
to lbs and done them in almost
definitely will not
it was a lot of fun from the very
beginning to the end you can feel that
we change a lot together so it's been a
great journey I've learned so much
things that I never knew I could get
from the program when I came to LVS I
had no idea that I would be getting so
much knowledge sure of this

this program enables our students to
acquire a true world mindset we're not
anymore preparing students to focus on a
career in China or to focus on a career
in London we are actually giving them
the skills so that they can develop an
international career anywhere in the
world understanding two cultures
understanding two mindsets and
understanding two very very different
ways of doing things and this is the key
difference if you compare the global mem
to any other program that isn't in the
market right now
an outstanding economic curriculum is is
a must and that's something we don't
even just have to discuss anymore what
really makes a difference is to bring
the practice to bring the world inside
of the classroom and this is something
that LDS has been doing for many years
now and this is something that makes us
different from from others so by by
having this link between theory and
practice and the two worlds United we
are preparing we're preparing a new type
of professional that is actually being
demanded by companies and that it's also
being demanded by the students
themselves is actually a combination of
the current masters and management at
one in business ball that has
successfully been happening for the last
five years and the MSC in international
business that Faden School of Management
has specifically designed for for this
program so we are actually providing
students with two titles we're giving
them two official degrees in in a unique
combination that that is the global mem

before I came to London Business School
I was studying philosophy politics and
economics and the reason that I came
here was to really develop my career and
sharpen my thinking around business I
started fashion business in Milan then I
decided to come to London because it's a
cultural City and it's a hub of
creativity and
Innovation I come from a mathematics
background um I really enjoyed the
degree however I didn't want to pursue
academics I studied linguistics and
literature back in Taiwan and I spent
some time in New York after I graduated
hence the
accent I felt that there was no other
degree other than the Masters management
that would really help me and prepare me
very well for working in top tier
companies what I also really like is how
pragmatic and practical the course is
taught we'll be preparing cases we'll be
working through cases you'll be doing
group projects and you'll be doing lots
of other assignments that will really
get you a practical understanding
understanding of why these concepts are
relevant beyond that the faculty on the
top of the fields they are advising
governments and Regulators all over the
world and that put a lot more weight
behind their opinions really London
Business School has loads of different
clubs um from the sort of more
professional ones like Finance club or
Consulting Club the one that I'm most
involved with is the softball club and
as well as meeting NB who are perhaps
six or seven years more senior than us
we also get to meet the teams we play
and we play in a bankers league so every
week we're meeting people from the Moa
uh bar cap credit s and loads of other
banks in the art investment Club I
helped organize the art investment
conference in the luxury goods Club I
had the opportunity to listen and meet
the leaders of the luxury goods
industry you get to build such a huge
Network in a very short
time no matter what your interest is
you'll find it here in London there is
so much art going on for example I go to
graduate exhibitions art exhibitions I
love the fact that the museums are free
it's an incredible financial and
Commercial capital I would not have had
all the opportunity to visit companies
to attend interviews if I'd been outside
of the
city I think I did a real journey uh in
this year during my career week I
discovered that I liked the idea of
going into Investment Banking I really
like the fact that it's very Dynamic
it's very challenging you work hard and
learn working under the pressure and I
love the
feeling Career Services really helped me
to get a foot in the door and helped me
prepare those cover letters in CVS I had
a couple of offers after interviews and
um decided to take KPMG and I'm starting
in 3 months in a couple of months I'm
starting my new job at namura I will be
starting to work in bluehive a wpp
company as a junior inside analyst zone
I'm very pleased to say that in a couple
of months time I'll be working for
Mackenzie I think that the main things
that I'm going to take away from the
course are really a whole framework of
thinking about business an idea of how
businesses work and really offer you a
language that uh I didn't have before
they don't open the doors for you but
they encourage and motivate you to open
those doors it's been such a good year
and I've I've really become so attached
to the to to to the others that it's
going to be a bit sad leaving I'm going
back home to Germany um but at the same
time I'm I'm also extremely excited to
to start work
