### Masters in Finance: Career Support | London Business School

the Career Center LPS was very useful in
terms of educating me about the various
roles available in finance linking me to
alumni who have been in the same shoes
before but also helping me strategize on
how I was going to apply and get to the
jobs that I wanted the Career Center
helped me in a number of ways the career
support was tailored to my specific
goals by picking up areas that I was
already strong in and could pitch those
but also picking out areas I needed to
develop so the way the Career Center
supports mass and finance students is we
really take an all-encompassing approach
around the career lifecycle we have a
suite of career skills offerings but
then what we do is we take the
foundation of that and we overlay it
with one-on-one personalized coaching
because we recognize that people have
different requirements I would say the
most valuable support I got from the
Career Center was probably the
one-on-one sessions
figuring out the job that you want to go
for it's not an easy task and I think
having people who have worked in the
field who has trained numerous classes
before you and seen what they've gone
through in the career search is very
helpful to be able to talk to them ask
questions bounce ideas and finesse the
strategy on how you're going to get to
the career you want the Career Center
once I left London Business School have
been invaluable in a number of ways from
figuring out which office to accept how
to negotiate those offers and also how
to think longer term about my career and
where I want to go about 80% of students
go into financial services areas and
then 20% into corporate consulting
within the financial services space
Investment Banking
and also government and Supernationals
make up a large part of that but we're
additionally seeing a real pickup in
private equity and venture capital in
fact private equity and venture capital
roles have doubled year-over-year in
terms of where our maths and finance
students that we go the caliber of
recruiters that came to campus in a word
hi people from all the big asset
management houses from hedge funds and I
think the other interesting part was
they even managed to get hedge funds
that weren't necessarily recruiting on
campus so you could network with them
and maybe set up a longer term career
goal the alumni network is definitely
great I happen to actually start in a
role where I sit next to a myth from the
year before and it helps you bond much
quicker simply because you've had a
share experience at a school debt most
people though the London Business School
alumni network have been great at
helping with my career I was actually
interviewed by an alumnus Elvia who's my
boss now so I guess you could say
they've been critical they hang on that
career
you

### Masters in Finance Part-time - Programme Experience | London Business School
URL: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MEnDfGyZgx8

Idioma: en

I chose to take the month and finance
because I wish to accelerate my career
shows the part-time format because I
really enjoyed my job and I didn't want
to leave the workplace as a chartered
accountant I wanted to transition into a
few research and apply side I knew that
I needed to further equip myself with
finance tools to a transition and be for
the network over the two years of the
program have been able to look at
finance from the more holistic view
being able to think outside the box and
being able to provide solutions from
different angles that will help my team
to work more efficiently and also work
more dynamically traveling to London
Business School from Canary Wharf where
I work has been extremely easy just hop
on the Jubilee Line my current role
there are a number of things that I've
certainly benefited from ghent quite a
lot of insight into how to look at and
analyze financial statements but
certainly be useful and on a day to day
basis I develop and enhance my critical
thinking and exquisite of nature my
understanding of financial concepts have
certainly improved a great deal
the first years spent taking the core
courses the first of which is financial
accounting and analysis where we look in
depth of financial statements the second
course is investment now that broadly
based on investment theory and
throughout those the first year you
actually take a number of additional
modules around sort of seems like
preparatory statistics classes the
second year it's where you choose your
electives and that's where you really
customize to the degree that the key
fields are investment management
corporate finance and risk analysis the
program office has been really helpful
in terms of helping us to ping down
exactly where you're interested and how
each one of those electives were able to
help us to get to the final stage one of
the best things about my first year was
having a study group there were six of
us
different nationality each from
different professional backgrounds we
have lawyers on the one hand have
investment bankers on the other you then
have portfolio managers consultants and
then service providers the network that
this is offered me just from my class
Elaine has been exceptional having such
a broad array of professional
backgrounds and different nationalities
is certainly reflective of London as a
financial hub this part-time cluster FLE
stayed a very close family
we have socials we have travelling we
were able to communicate with a wider
community including the MBA embers in
order to effectively balance having a
job and studying you need to have a
strong support network as they are so
many finance professionals in the class
you learn about roles that you'd never
even heard of before I am a student
mentor for the masters and management
program I also am a member of the
private equity and venture capital club
I managed to join a couple of tracks
cease snow track the Russian track and
also I was part of the committee setting
up the tattoos in 2015 the decision to
read a master's in finance adobea
part-time has been one of my fulfilling
enjoyable things I've done certainly of
benefit from it three years become a
certain remember it for years to come
my advice for anyone planning to do the
Miss part-time just do it
you

### MiF Global Business Experience: New York & Boston | London Business School
URL: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8VDf8LLQgiA

Idioma: en

the Boston in New York global business
experience is really a way for our
students to understand a bit more about
some of the challenges that are facing
the asset management industry in the
United States its experiential it's
getting a feeling for how institutions
operate how environments different or
want students to understand so what are
the challenges and issues of the asset
management industry but also related
areas and how the other management
industry influences and the overall
macro economy and other areas in finance
and economics there are quite a few
interesting trends and challenges the
asset management industry faces in tech
what our policy makers going to do in
terms of regulating the industry we
spent the first two days in Boston and
the following four days in New York the
Boston part was really focused on MIT
Harvard some of the big asset managers
like mer numeric State Street and then
the second part of it was in New York
visiting banks regulators other clients
as well being led by the faculty was
fantastic I think they've got some
really valuable and important
relationships and they leverage that to
get us fantastic meetings with really
senior influential asset managers and
portfolio managers and I think that
really created what was a fantastic trip
there are so many companies that we
visited during edge of the GBA the ones
that stand out for me are some of the
private equity companies general antic
who
one bursts of investors in that in uber
and snapchat we were fortunate enough to
have one of the most accredited
professors of economics professor
Benjamin Friedman talked to us and give
us a lecture on his views on the economy
so this really highlighted to me the
power of obs the network the community
to be able to get such a figurehead to
spend an hour of his day to speak to all
of our students and that was really
really special one of the highlights for
me on the GB program was the baseball
game at Boston Red Sox Fenway Park I've
never been to and it's sort of the holy
grail of baseball so that was really
exciting on the final day there's quite
an interactive session where you get to
have debates with different team members
where we are talking about the themes
that have been discussed throughout the
week and one is arguing for and one is
arguing against so right at the end of
the week that was quite a fun thing just
to round off you know the the whole trip
you also had a boat cruise which was
just to unwind you know reflect over
what we've learned and just solidify
some of the relationships that was made
along the way the final cruise I reckon
it was the best sunset I have ever seen
and that is not a joke it was phenomenal
like Statue of Liberty and the Setting
Sun that I will remember forever
being on the part time program you're
kind of meeting every other week so this
was an opportunity to really build up a
network and meet new people
everyone's different and everyone's got
something to bring to the class which is
the best thing about it these guys give
you a different perspective because
they're at a different point in life
maybe learning slightly different things
I've come away with the desire and
interest to look into private equity and
the hedge funds and they gave
into that space you know that's
something that two weeks ago I didn't
really have any knowledge across it's
been really inspiring to gain more
knowledge of the asset management
industry
you

### Fintech Insights Weekend | London Business School

what is FinTech we say it's
organizations combining innovative
business models and technology to enable
enhance and disrupt financial services
its innovative business models and
technology it's not technology that
banks are implementing it's really new
technology within financial services
FinTech matters a lot to the world of
finance I work with many clients all
over Europe and FinTech is on all of
their agendas they're putting on
capabilities around FinTech how to
exploit and use new technologies in
their own value chain these days so it's
definitely high on the topic of every
bank that I know it's fantastic to meet
some students who are really interested
in context and I think vice versa it's
great for them to be able to look at
what you I doing in the space and what's
happening in FinTech generally we're
always interested to talk to lb our
students who you know are looking to
kind of make their own way and FinTech
to FinTech is actually at the forefront
of innovation so I'm here to find out
what is happening in the area and see
what I can take out see how there can be
ahead of the curve in understanding
whether future of the finance industry
is going ever so often we come across a
new set of challenges or a disruptive
technology and that is why FinTech is so
important we've seen a lot of movement
within technology we see a lot of money
going into FinTech and its really great
to see London Business School
anticipating future needs and putting on
something like this I'm able to network
with people who are at the forefront of
FinTech which I'm sure I'll be able to
use later on in my life
I think the speakers have a very
interesting background a lot of them
have been talking about how their
products and the and the things that
they are interacting with in the FinTech
space are changing the financial
services sector and it is quite useful
to see you know a different paradigm to
the usual traditional banking model and
the financial services model I had her
speakers from professional service
like UI or professors and LPS and
entrepreneurs so it's a combination of
insight from different angles and I
think that's very valuable and you hear
the different challenges that all these
people are facing one of the key
takeaways for me has been how you know a
lot of people are trying to optimize the
workflow within banking to see how
FinTech can actually not be a disruptor
and actually have competition but
actually worked in a way to optimize the
entire flow and make the financial
services model a bit more streamlined a
bit more innovative and in help you know
achieve the best results about the
company and the customers some of these
developments are so fast-moving that
they're very difficult to capture in a
curriculum so what we do is step to one
side and take a day here and there
intensively studying dramatic recent
innovations in finance hosting events
like the one we're hosting today what
we're looking at in tech is important
part of that process we have a question
on everybody's lips it's how is fin tech
disruptively transforming the finance
industry only want our own graduates or
the best informant alveus is a place
where diversity is very welcome but
inclusion is also very valued and
emphasized you get to network with MBAs
and other programs which is quite unique
I've met a lot of people who have very
diverse backgrounds and very interesting
experiences from work and I think a lot
of that has helped me actually deliver
better results for both my company and
my friends
you

### Spotlight on the Masters in Finance | London Business School

[Music]
I think the best thing about the master
in finance is that it's really tailored
for people uh like me who really enjoyed
financial markets and just Finance in
general I think what the myth does
really well is leverage off that that
previous experience in finance give them
additional skills give them additional
knowledge so that their Ambitions to
work in a different area become do does
that a whole lot more realistic it will
change your life it will give you the
tools to look at the
world as a corporate finance
person my dream was to work in
investment banking in London I was aware
that that was a really tough change to
make and thought the best possible way
was to move to London um and get a good
brand behind me to my knowledge it's the
one top ranked business school with a
worldclass finance faculty that offers a
generalist Masters in finance what I was
expecting from the myth was great
training access to truly worldclass
lecturers and it certainly provided that
I think what makes any program the
students both in terms of the quality
from an intellectual and academic point
of view but also the type of people that
you get being surrounded by you know
your peers that bring in a lot of
experience in the classroom the lectures
you know given by the Best in Class
professor and faculty it's unprecedented
I've worked before in Berlin and in
London but never exposed to so many
cultures in one single room and it was
just an absolute pleasure to work with
Group after group of people who were
highly qualified highly motivated but
just good fun to be around at the same
[Music]
time it is just incredible how easy it
is to network within the London Business
School Community people are responsive
you can you can get in touch with you
know current students with alumni some
current students or prospective students
write to me directly to obtain either
the my opinion about my experience or
some advice about careers uh and I try
as much as possible to help them you
don't ever really move out of London
Business School it tends to follow you
and you tend to add back there is a
social aspect which is which is just
phenomenal all the activities in the
campus all the socializing bring people
together in a in a bit of a different
way you almost feel a part of a family
and that's what's really nice about
coming back to an event like tonight and
to events so to see the people who I
taught to see what they've moved on to
do it's great to come back to the school
and and see those bright energetic
relatively young students who keep us on
our toes ask fascinating questions and
give us really quite a good
time without the myth I would never have
ended up where I am now as a foreigner
it's quite hard I think to move into a
big city like London and being part of
the lbs Community definitely helped me
uh get the job I have now it is
absolutely a life-changing experience in
every sense of the world studying in
London is probably the most amazing
experience of my life so far

after I came to LVS you are the lbs
pushing to the spot basically we meet
with the right people network with the
right people and that helps you the
recruiting process because you get to
know what the companies and what the
institution want from you and you can
implement it in your strategy to become
a person who they want obviously school
doesn't spoon-feed you they don't really
they don't bring it to your table and do
that you have to work yourself but to be
honest there are more than enough
opportunities that you cannot even cover
everything I remember when I first came
to lbs I was so busy that I didn't
really have time to eat lunch I I got
this offer for this summer associate
position and investment thing dude the
Career Service Center they had a every
every year lbs point plans a New York
finance career track and I was part of
it and through that track because I
visited the major investment banks in
New York do this track I was able to
find a patient and I've got an offer you
have to work hard obviously that's
kipman but if the fact that you know you
can pick and choose opportunities they
provide you that's a big help
and if you prepare well and if you work
hard I'm sure that one of the
opportunities you'll be able to pick up

obvious pushing to the spot basically we
meet with the right people network with
the right people you get to know what
the companies and what the institution
want from you and you can implement it
in your strategy to become a person who
they want it's all started from an email
from finance club saying that Goldman
Sachs is hosting an event at their
office during the advance I met several
people and two of them where they'll be
assalaamu both of them recommended me
internally and they backed me up and I
think it's a it's what really made a
difference like many other companies
Amazon came to campus
had I not joined lbs I would have never
had access to their graduate programs
because they only go to top tier
business schools and hire only from
those schools after they made the
presentation they posted the job and
career central which is an internal job
website we had a lot of sessions on
working on our CV and cover letters my
CV changed a lot and the format change
completely and what I talked about and
how I talked about my accomplishments
well I was a sieve for in a startup
based and in Berlin in London and even
though it's a great management
experience is this product was not very
big so it was not very well known by the
business community I don't think it
would been possible for me to get that
role at HSBC without being at London
Business School because I didn't have
the exact career path that would lead to
such a job by being at London Business
School it got kind of reset to my career
I got this offer for this summer
associate position and investment thing
to the Career Service Center every year
lbs plans a New York finance career
track because I visited the major
investment banks in New York I was able
to find a position and I got an offer
the scope gives you an amazing
opportunity to meet recruiters from all
over the world from all the different
industries but it's ultimately up to you
whether you're going to make it or not
in my case I had to meet 12 people
before I secured my internships 7 before
I had my first interview and in total I
think I did around 50 coffee charts
you have to work hard obviously that's
given if you prepare well and if you
work hard I'm sure that one of
opportunities you'll be able to pick up

I was very lucky to be sponsored by City
Group uh my employer Umi prior to coming
to OBS I work for City corate banking
for 3 years and they have a program um
together with um the school to sponsor
um the top analyst to come here and
study I didn't really have an academic
background in finance although I had the
the working experience and I'm sure that
the program would help me to equip with
the proper background and foundation for
that definitely the master and finance
help me to understand different areas
within Finance from the second term
onward we are offered to choose up to 7
to 10 elective I get to focus not only
on very quantitative uh core Finance
subject but I also get to get a little
taste of other subject and it really
helped to broaden my perspective even
for the same division I'm working in it
is completely
different dynamic in in Asia for example
so I get to talk with my my classmate
who actually been there done that and I
get to work on the side of my client to
know what they would be thinking on the
other side and it's it will really help
me when I come back to my work uh as a
copper Banker

well I was a CFO in a startup based in
Berlin and London and even though it's a
great management experience is the
startup was um not very big so it was
not very well known by the business
community and that's why going back to L
this business school was actually very
helpful in getting my name out there
HSBC uh came to campus last September to
meet with students and explain uh the
different uh opportunities within the
bank um and I was was uh I joined the
group and I met a lot of interesting
people so I decided to apply for a role
in Investment Banking um shortly
thereafter I was invited for a few
rounds of interviews that ended up uh
turning into a full-time offer based out
of London so very shortly after starting
my program I had already secured my
full-time employment I don't think it
would been possible for me to get that
role at HSBC without being at London
business school because I didn't have
the uh the exact career path that would
lead to such a job uh by being at London
Business School it brought kind of a
reset to my career and they were willing
to meet with me and I was then able to
tell them my story perspective
candidates looked obviously at the
return on investment when thinking about
a business degree for me it was uh
segmented in two things the the
short-term return which right now is a
career in London uh and the uh second
aspect is the long-term relationships
that I building with my with the lbs
community and I think even though you
can quantify it it's definitely going to
pay off in the long run

like many other companies Amazon came to
campus to to do uh an event as well and
and what I realized is like had I not
joined lbs I would have never had access
to their graduate programs because they
only go to top tier Business School can
hire only from those schools after they
made the presentation they posted the
job on Career Central which is an
internal uh job website we had a lot of
sessions on working on our CV and cover
letters my CV changed a lot my my format
changed completely and and you know what
I talked about and how I talked about my
my accomplishments so it was a
completely new CV before I had my job
interview they actually uh told me what
to focus on and and what what were the
likely questions I was going to get and
and that was exactly what I ended up
being asked

in South Africa was a vice president uh
in B Africa uh helping formulate
strategy in the various African markets
where the investment banking was trying
to expand into I started questioning
myself whether that is what I wanted to
do for the rest of my life I wanted to
do Finance with a
conscience uh so that is International
Development was ideal to me because
you're working with pot alleviation for
me to get into International Development
I needed a masters they do look at what
school someone has been to uh Global
rankings are followed religiously by a
lot of recruiters I needed to
demonstrate my technical understanding
uh funny enough one of the interview
question was something that I had
covered in my account accounting course
the coaching and the role plays that we
had because that was quite useful in the
panel interview some of the issues that
we talking about is what electives am I
doing at London Business School uh and
my manager in particular who interviewed
me knows London Business School very
well so the job that I'll be doing at
the world bank I'll be working with the
World Bank treasury in in finance
combined with advisory working with uh
developing countries to just make sure
that they are globally competitive I
could have still been in my old position
had I not come to Le a business go had I
not taken the plunge to explore what the

that I could really grab that
opportunity I have my dream job I love
what I do and that was only possible
because of what I've learned at Lon
business school my team covering
Portugal and Spain is probably the most
successful team within the whole fixing
Flor at and for the type of role that
Jose plays finance and the understanding
of the technical aspects of it and the
applicability of it is it matters the
Masters in finance program that Jose did
it really does blend the need for
technical capacity within Finance as
well as good commercial awareness and
client connectivity we are um a big
network of alumni at at the company um
we all know each other we know each
other well and we help each other out we
want the company to hire more London
business school students because not
only we know they are good but also
because we have a self-interest that the
franchise keeps growing keeps keeps up

academic Excellence Global contact
London situation and private sector
contacts I think is what really makes
our masters and finance first class and
distinctive I wanted to come to London
because it's a the brochur is a
financial Powerhouse and of course
London Business School is a huge brand
that sticks on your CV and actually says
that you can use Financial tools
accurately precisely that you know what
you're talking about I wasn't ready to
take two years out of my career to focus
just on an MBA I knew I wanted Finance
versus General management so this was
this was a great program to kind of
correlate the
two when you take classes like fixed
income or financial engineering a lot of
the concepts have actually been
developed over the past um 10 20 years
so a lot of the things are very new a
lot of the teaching is very Cutting Edge
a lot of the teaching is actually not
found in Texas
box one learned the most by casework so
we would normally uh work in in groups
and we would work on these cases
together these will be real life
problems problems that were faced by
many managers and following the the the
case discussion we would be also
introduced the theory so it was a very
good mixture about Theory and
[Music]
application I definitely feel more
confident I can reach my career goals um
I I found a job in the master during the
masters of Finance program the job I was
looking for so one I mean that's a
success by itself and then secondly uh
speaking to people has also uh broaden
my view and cemented my views of what I
want to do in the future um 10 years
from here I'll probably be a a senior
Finance director in a big multinational
I was working more on the operational
side of Finance but I wanted to move to
corporate finance so I think in the
short term um by doing this program and
being sponsored for deid I think um I
have now the opportunity to move to
another line of business moving from
Consulting to corporate finance and get
some project exposure in this
[Music]
area career services at London Business
School has an incredible array of
services for our masters and finance
students Career Services helped me in a
number of ways um I think firstly the
career counseling they do has been very
useful um really got me on the track of
what I wanted to do in life and what I
want to do after the master and finance
um having made that decision they really
help you in preparing for the interviews
preparing your resume um really fine
tuning your cover
letter there was uh I think nobody who
didn't get the chance to be in front of
exactly the sort of employer that they
wanted to be in front of and probably
had been for about five or six years
before the program uh so the sort of
ranging quality of names that that we
were able to interview with there uh was
superb we were really trained very well
for the interviews and myself personally
I had more than than 20 interview
invitations and finally I got an offer
from barcus Global
Investors I think London Business School
is a superb internationally recognized
brand and it's a brand that will never
go away it will always be on your CD and
it's very important to remember that
when you're considering business goals
this has definitely changed my life it
changed my career because I was an
accountant now I'm working leading asset
management company it changed my my
personal life I live in the greatest
city in the world and I love London this
diverse and opportunities which it

when you take classes like fixed income
or financial engineering a lot of the
concepts have actually been developed
over the past 10 20 years so a lot of
things are very new a lot of the
teaching is very cutting edge a lot of
the teaching is actually not found in
textbooks as this class I'm taking that
I really liked it is fixed-income taught
by Salomon basa awesome professor his
passion for teaching and communicating
the students is just it's wonderful he's
probably one of the funniest people in
class that you probably run into ever
and but thoroughly well-versed with this
topic gets it across well and great
learning experience from that as well so
when you walk into the classroom there
is this amazing heterogeneity and the
intellectual atmosphere in the classroom
and that was one of my most pleasant
surprises at LVS that the amazing
remarkable quality of the students and
they are here to learn they are very
hungry and they want to move to the next
level but what is amazing is how they
love to be challenged the learning
experience the masters in finance
program is also very very challenging
but at the end I can say very rewarding
we had three core courses at the
beginning of the semester the
assignments were really tough and
challenging but then you have always
your group members that you can count on
and they always happy to help you out
one learned the most by casework so we
would normally work in in groups and we
would work on these cases together this
will be real-life problems problems that
were faced by many managers and
following the the case discussion we
would be also introduced the theory so
it was a very good mixture about theory
and application well when I think back
on the past year and taking part in the
core programs first since it's a huge
adjustment I mean most of us haven't
been in school for a while so I think
the biggest the biggest highlight is
adjusting to some very rigorous
curriculum
and some tough learning curves because
this is a very in-depth program on and
just adjusting that work-life work study
balance with the core courses and
masters and finance project you have the
opportunity to learn more about the
future industry you want to work in and
I've chosen private equity in Africa as
a subject and it was extremely good
learning experience and that helped me
to clean the the job afterwards

I'm Michael Donley I work for canic cord
Adams the Canadian Investment Bank as an
equity research analyst before that I
spent about six years at bridgewell also
in equity research and I graduated from
the Masters in finance in 2000 at London
Business School I think there's there's
two or three uh tangible benefits you
get from the the Masters and finance I
think the first one for me um as an
equity research analyst is the the
toolkit in the valuation framework that
you get from a very specific Finance
Focus course um I think the second thing
more generically is you get an
appreciation of the sort of
international elements of Finance
because the the alumni and the faculty
are all very International and so is the
client base of the the people that we we
tend to talk to uh in my industry I
think the third thing is that people can
learn how to work in sort of smaller
collaborative teams which if they hadn't
been used to doing before can be can be
quite beneficial my name is sopia
andropov um I'm originally from Russia
and I studied in London Business School
in 2006 2007 I got my Master's and
finance degree and now I'm working for
barkless Global Investors which has
recently become Black Rock and now we
are the biggest asset manager in the
world my name is Ron Aram I work in the
retail Structured Products business
which is in within the markets business
at City Group I'm based in London in
Canary Warf the way the Masters and
finance has helped my career to date is
most immediately it's resulted in a much
wider set of career choices and options
today uh the Practical reality of it is
this that I can make a wider
contribution to our clients to uh my
firm and to my contemporaries both
within the firm and the market which
means you can reinvent yourself it means
you can have a Fresh Approach confidence
to approach new businesses new prospects
and have a discipline and a structure
for dealing with those
exactly used to work in Russia in
accounting and now I'm working for the
leading asset management company in
London next to the brightest and
smartest people in the finance industry
and I have to say that London Business
School and Masters and finance program
had a significant and the most important
impact on this in my life the last
couple of years have been quite
difficult for anybody who who works in
finance and I think there has been a
benefit um to having attended London
Business School in the sort of past
decade in that you know it is in London
and London Remains the preeminent
Financial Center in in the world um and
it's important not to underplay how
important it is to be there on the
ground in the face of potential clients
uh and potential employers the
competition has become much stronger in
the finance world and now it's much more
difficult for us Finance professionals
to keep our head above the water so I
think that studying at London Business
School and Masters and finance program
give you the know gives you the
knowledge and the edge to compete in
this market environment how could I
recommend the London Business School I
would say it has a stellar reputation
because of its excellent faculty because
of its location and because of its
Network and the sort of attention it
attracts from firms because of its
excellent reputation I will recommend
London Business School to all my friends
who are looking for opportunities in
finance industry well there are several
reasons to that first of all that's the
quality of knowledge and the quality of
teaching which we received everybody in
finance World know such names as Roy
Dimson or suan bashak and those talented
and bright people were teaching us fixed
income asset management and other topics
another reason is of course the
classmates and you don't have to
underestimate this opportunity to talk
and to integrate with people from more
than 15 different countries it's not
only experience from professional point
of view it's a personal experience and
it's it's very difficult to replicate
anywhere else the career service when uh
we were at the school was absolutely
superb there was uh I think nobody who
didn't get the chance to be in front of
exactly the sort of employer that they
wanted to be in front of and probably
had been for about five or six years
before the program uh so there sort of
ranging quality of names that that we
were able to interview with there uh was
superb we were really trained very well
for the interviews and myself personally
I had more than 20 interview invitations
and finally I got an offer from barus
Global
Investors I think there are probably at
least two or three uh angles from which
uh employer benefits they get very well
grounded technical technically excellent
individual who is not only technically
excellent but also has a network uh
Network whether it's a client Network or
it's a technical support network or it's
reach into the faculty to get the very
latest in uh research and thinking which
can then be translated uh into some
Revenue generating potential opportunity
for an employer the London Business
School is one of our Target schools
within Europe uh we have very very few
Target schools London Business School is
one of them and it's an opportunity to
really reach into pool of excellent
candidates um both in terms of technical
Excellence Network and a resource for
building our future uh leaders uh the
Masters in finance has been an excellent
uh experience and contribution to the
employer I think London Business School
is a superb internationally recognized
brand and it's a brand that will never
go away it will always be on your CV and
it's very important to remember that
when you're considering business goals
uh the thing more specifically is the
muss and finance program is if you are
intending to work in any of the sort of
classic areas of finance a superbly well
sculptured and well targeted program for
anyone who wants to either get into and
then subsequently do well in in those
areas of work this has definitely
changed my life it changed my career
because I was an accountant now I'm
working leading asset management company
it changed my my personal life I live in
the greatest city in the world and I
love London this diversity and
opportunities which is
wise so I'm I'm really happy the
school's reputation carries the students
very very far I think uh that said
before you come to the master in finance
make a concerted effort to really get on
top of as much information as you can uh
be very clear about your objectives
coming out of the Masters in finance but
uh I look forward to uh hopefully
greeting more alums coming out of the
Masters in finance in Q course for

### Masters in Finance: Fast-Track Your Career in Finance at London Business School
URL: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vj2ika5HtpY

Idioma: en

I wanted to come
as the brochure is a financial
powerhouse and of course London Business
School is a huge brand that sticks on
your CV and actually it says that you
can use financial terms accurately
precisely but you know what you're
talking about London Business School of
course is a very highly respected global
institution our masters and finance is
ranked number one and the Financial
Times list and the name of the Masters
and Finance is to provide specialized
technical knowledge to people who
already have some experience in the
financial world and want to accelerate
their career going forward or change
their career track we have the number
one rated faculty in Europe one of the
strongest globally we have hundreds of
alumni both in London and elsewhere and
I think about what makes London Business
School specialist institution I think
there are four for me key
characteristics the first and most
important is just academic excellence
second and very very important and
something that really is sting with us
is our global focus and our global
contact it's not just the student body
who come from literally all over the
world but so to the faculty and we try
and prepare you so that you can have
jobs anywhere in the world in a very
fast changing financial environment
I'm here today at mansion house which is
a very heart of the city and London
Business School and the City of London
are of course two iconic London
institutions and for a master's in
finance that's a very powerful
combination and then the fourth or final
one is that we're very very strongly
linked in with companies and with
practitioners the school we want to have
a profound impact to the way the world
does business and that means you have to
have contacts with the real world and
those four characteristics academic in
excellence
global contact London situation and
private sector contacts I think is what
really makes our masters in finance
first-class indistinct the main
attraction of this program is one is
London Business School long busy school
not only is a very good brand but also
attract very good students which is of
course very important because it adds to
the learning experience and adds to the
future value of the program of my
network my friends secondly the Masters
of Finance program I have a fans
background and I would just want to
build on it find this background I want
to be a more rounded more professional
finance professional and that's why I
choose the finest program rather than a
general program I think the great thing
about studying in the masters in finance
program at London Business School is
that you are in a class with highly
experienced professionals and in the
classroom that reflects in the way that
questions are asked
people are or the class is able to go at
a much faster pace than if then if
people had not had prior experience and
you get to cover more ground what
attracted me to the London Business
School Finance program was a program
that was more concise and very oriented
to the finance part for me I
specifically wanted a part-time program
because I wasn't ready to take two years
out of my career to focus just on an MBA
I knew I wanted finance versus general
management so this was this was a great
program to kind of correlate the two and
gain synergies and being applied applied
to work

when you were applying you just wish for
the best but when actually you see the
offering in like you read the email it's
it's really scary because you know
you're gonna take this huge step and
then and everything will shift
afterwards I had applied to a lot of
American schools as in processes there
but what really tipped me over the edge
was the work environment in London
America is very much
American London is very much Europe UK
emerging markets in a lot of cases and
all them to the fixed-income equity
markets within that LVS is one of the
most renowned names in the world it has
a fantastic brand image the most diverse
student cohort it's really quite an
exciting period knowing that you're
going to be able to be surrounded by so
many different people who are
interesting backgrounds who have been
very successful academically and in
their careers in my study group
we had three students from Asia myself
included two from Europe and one from
Latin America one had a background as a
trader another as a management
consultant another is investment banker
and two central bankers what has
impressed me more about LVS is the
culture of helping each other and even
though they don't know you I was also
surprised by how willing the alumni were
to go out of their way to meet up with
me to have coffee with me and to also
help me out in terms of my career so
although I knew it's gonna be this
diverse but seriously the diversity is
amazing
I think LBS does a really good job
identifying profiles very interesting
profiles the class who enjoyed the most
and think I've got the most out of is
the financial analysis course with Chris
Nixon I think he gives great insight
into practical finance and really
applies the learning to companies in the
market from the first day they made a
switch into the mode that we we're
pursuing a career you're not here just
for the education that you have to be
point on sharp my best piece of advice
to incoming students at lbs is to reach
out to as many of these student
ambassadors and current students as
possible you can really get a great
understanding at the resource available
lbs and how you can use them to tailor
your experience
it's been an absolutely amazing journey
so far I do genuinely believe that
coming to lbs has made me a better
person and a better finance professional
I'm delighted that I chose lbs it's been
exactly what I hoped for and I believe
it's gonna give me exactly as also
wanted the best thing I ever did like
seriously I would do it again and again
and again the opportunities it's opened
up for me the confidence it's given me
in the work I do I don't think I could
have found it anywhere else

the vision of the Career Center is to
provide tailored career support for
students and also to provide them with
market-leading
insights into sectors in which they are
interested the Career Center is unique
because it brings together a whole lot
of disciplines and learning and skill
sets that are a very hard to find
outside lbs and be if you do find any of
them really expensive but here they're
across the road and free so it's an
exceptional way to get yourself off the
ground and accelerated Career Center has
been brilliant there's a lot of X
industry professionals within finance
opinel to speak to and have been able to
give me specific guidance based on my
background and then leading up to
exploring the roles interview training
and real real insight that I don't think
I would have got otherwise I think the
Career Center has been absolutely
brilliant when I came into lbs I thought
I'd take the year to figure what I
wanted to do and in the first month the
Career Center arranged many sessions
like exploring careers and try out
equity exploring careers and hedge funds
exploring careers and Investment Banking
so different areas of Finance it had
different sessions like building your CV
building your cover letter making your
LinkedIn profile making your two-minute
story my advice to incoming masters in
finance students is to really keep an
open mind about what eventual career
outcomes might look like the jobs of
tomorrow probably don't exist today and
it's quite possible that the jobs of
today might not exist tomorrow if the
one-on-one you get to have options of
going one-on-one with their career
coaches I think this was really helpful
because you you can talk to them about
what you're thinking how you're thinking
and just to know if you're on the right
path or not I think what makes the
London Business School Career Center
unique is probably three-fold I think
firstly we have a very large team we
have 45 professionals who work for the
Career Center but we have access to over
a hundred external career coaches and
executives secondly the depth of
experience within that team is
phenomenal so we have people who have
significant commercial and financial
experience in finance in particular we
have former bankers and we have former
asset managers as a part of our team
thirdly the Career Center is located in
London which is the heart of the global
financial system where we have access to
many companies in the finance sector and
indeed beyond both small and large alike
but also many executives who can support
our students along the way I would say
start early to think about your career
goals take some time to reflect your
career so far and where do you want to
go next when I'm working with the
students here they often being swayed by
other student decision and there is a
herd mentality or following the crowd so
I would say definitely take some time to
reflect on what matters to you in your
career what difference what impact do
you want to make in the next 5 or 10
years of career the other thing they did
was help me to find my career goals so I
came in with a rather nebulous
idea of wanting to be a portfolio
manager and they said that's fantastic
right where are you now what does a
portfolio manager do where's the gap how
do you close that and it was
exceptionally useful for my current role
and I think my career going forward will
be all the better for it

### Masters in Finance Part-time - Programme Experience | London Business School

Idioma: en

I chose to take the muscles and finance
because I wish to accelerate my career
chase the part-time format because I
really enjoyed my job and I didn't want
to leave the workplace as a chartered
accountant I wanted to transition into
Equity Research in the buy-side I knew
that I needed to further equip myself
with finance tools to a transition and
be build a network over the two years of
the program I have been able to look at
finance from a more holistic view being
able to think outside the box and being
able to provide solutions from different
angles that will help my team to work
more efficiently and also work more
dynamically traveling to London Business
School from Canary Wharf where I work
has been extremely easy just hop on the
triple-a line my current role that there
are a number of things that I've
certainly benefited from gained quite a
lot of insight into how to look at and
analyze financial statements that
certainly being useful on a day to day
basis I've developed and enhanced my
critical thinking and inquisitive nature
my understanding of financial concepts
has certainly improved a great deal the
first years spent taking the core
courses the first of which is financial
accounting an analysis where we look in
depth of financial statements the second
course is investments now that's broadly
based on investment theory and
throughout the first year you actually
take a number of additional modules
around sort of things like preparatory
statistics classes the second year it's
where you choose your electives and
that's where you really customize your
degree that the key fields are
investment management corporate finance
and this analysis that program office
has been really helpful in terms of
helping us to ping down exactly where
your interest is and how each one of
those electives were able to help us to
get to the final stage one of the best
things about my first year was having a
study group there were six of us
sure different nationality each from a
different professional background when
you have lawyers on the one hand you
have investment bankers on the other
you then have portfolio managers
consultants and then service providers
the network that this is offered me just
from my class alone has been exceptional
having such a broad array of
professional backgrounds and different
nationalities is certainly reflective of
London as a financial hub if part-time
cluster flea stayed a very close family
we have socials we have traveling's we
were able to communicate with a wider
community including the MBAs the embers
in order to effectively balance having a
job and studying you need to have a
strong support network as there are so
many finance professionals in the class
you learn about roles that you've never
even heard of before I managed to join a
couple of tracks the snow track the
Russian track and also I was part of the
committee setting up the tattoo in 2015
the decision to to read a master's in
finance at lbs part-time has been one of
the most fulfilling and enjoyable things
I've done
certainly all benefit from it three
years the car mile certainly remember it
for years to come my advice for anyone
learning to do them if part-time just do
it

if you're ambitious if you want to make
the next step in your career if you want
to deepen your knowledge if you want to
achieve greatness within your line of
work I think that the messes in finance
is an amazing way to go and an amazing
place to be so I decided to do the
Masters in finance for several reasons I
have worked in finance for a few years
before this and it's an industry that I
really did enjoy working in and wanted
to continue to work in but I felt the
need to really broaden my horizon really
gain a more diverse technical and
quantitative skills that you do gain and
a master's in finance program I knew
that by doing the course full-time I
will be able to engage with professors
on a daily basis develop my network I
was looking for something flexible
enough that I could tailor to my
specific interest and I knew that there
was for example an option to do
different concentrations and one of them
was investments where I was interested
in and I wanted to be in a financial
said they're like you're not London is a
fantastic place to study finance because
it is the financial capital of the world
the business you see going on here
happens in very few other places in the
world if anywhere and it's also enormous
ly diverse when you have 114 people from
over 30 countries who have all worked in
various areas of Finance who all share
passion in finance I think having that
as your learning platform as your
support network you know and your career
network is invaluable the first term you
get to do the core courses and then
starting from the spring term you get to
choose your electives and this is the
part when you can tailor your experience
to your interest you can choose to
concentrate in areas such as corporate
finance risk management and derivatives
or even investment management if you
like what I have learned made me a more
holistic professional before I was very
focused on a narrow part of investments
now I have learned from different asset
classes but also from other topics like
a strategy or
intrapreneurship the fourth term is a
fantastic opportunity for students to
round out their experience at lbs after
they've finished an internship or if
they wish to study further electives
they can also do a global business
experience and have more time to pin
down the job that they really would I
did a summer internship at a hedge fund
which taught me a lot and personally
found it very useful the current role
I'm doing I definitely have been
impressed by the teaching and faculty
here at London Business School the fact
that all for an amazing wealth of
industry experience as well as an
academic experience when it comes to
teach you in the classroom it's not just
theory that you're learning but also
them applying it to real world examples
and case studies that they've genuinely
worked on you are given the opportunity
to take courses and things like
effective communication business writing
public speaking so I'd say both on a
technical side and more of the software
skillset side you really are prepared
for your next job my favorite part of
the experience has been to Japan track
this was a very good cultural experience
but also we got to learn a lot about the
Japanese economy their main businesses
for me coming to campus joining society
is doing tracks and doing sports I've
never ever done in my entire life it's a
good time to actually become more
well-rounded during the time here I know
that some of the leaders of differential
industry attended lbs with me prepared
to be challenged but in the most
enriching community from a professional
and personal standpoint it's been an
incredible year and I would really
definitely recommend you to apply
you
